Poll: Christians: Primary reason you attend Church

Hello everyone!

I was posting on another forum (a non-Catholic Christian forum) and the gentleman who created the OP stated that anytime he has gone to a Catholic Mass, everyone seems to be just going through the motions. He posted this poll on that forum and I have decided to duplicate it here and include responses for our Non-Catholic Christian friends.

What is the PRIMARY reason you attend Church?

Note: This poll will not show who voted for which answer. Please answer in total honesty. Thank you!
 
I look forward to attending Mass whenever I can, not just Sunday’s. I attend because it is here in the Mass where I can commune with the living God in Spirit and Truth. I look forward to hearing, seeing, The Word of God made flesh. Who wouldnt go to see Jesus presence? Attending Mass allows me the freedom to leave this world and be in the Lord’s presence, and give him my sacrifice of praise and worship, which suffices my soul to journey on without thirsting. Primar reason I attend Mass, is to fully live today, and hope in Jesus Christ for another.

Although I have obligations to my Parish on Sunday’s, this is secondary, to my Primary reasons for attending Mass whenever I can. I am so bless’d that in the Roman Catholic church, I can visit my Lord and savior any day of the week, Jesus promised is fulfilled in the Roman Catholic church, where I am reminded where Jesus states, " I will never forsake you," “and behold I am with you always”.

I’m with you. I wish I could attend Mass everyday, but Mass at our parish is at the same time the school bus comes. I attend Mass on Fridays with the school. 🙂

Sometimes when I’m getting ready for mass, I think of what I’d rather be doing… beautiful day… going to the beach, that sort of thing but I remind myself that at minimum, 1 hour per week is God’s. Once I am at mass, I am always happy to be there to worship.

So part obligation - part worship would be my honest answer.

When I go, I do not just go through the motions. I pray and worship. But I don’t see how someone observing me in the pews could know what I am doing inside. They could think I stand and sit and smile and gesture on cue with no intent.

I didn’t know how to answer your poll, though. If there were no general idea that Sunday is the principle day, I’m not sure that I would always go on Sunday. I might go on Tuesday, for all I know. So, my behavior of going on a particular day of the week is conditioned by laws and rules. The laws or rules are influencing what I do.

Exactly my thought. I suspect, too, that some protestants go to church because they think they should, even if they don’t feel the same “obligation” that Catholics feel.

For myself, I go daily. I wouldn’t do that if I was just going through the motions. If an observer was watching me, though, they’d have no way of knowing that.

I learn something every day, but that’s secondary. I go to worship, to enhance my relationship with God, and I go for the Eucharist. Of course, all of these things work together.

I learn something every day, which is an added bonus. Since I’ve been going daily, I’ve developed a craving to learn more.

But for those who go out of obligation, they are still spending time at Mass when they’d rather be elsewhere because they think it’s the right thing to do. That in itself is a good thing.

Okay, my mother is 0607, my grandmother 0616, my son 0618 who was born in 1998 AND my husband will be in Binghamton this week. Small world?

What is it with non-Catholics who think that because our worship style is different, that means we’re just going through the motions? It’s starting to really annoy me. How on earth can someone see into the hearts and minds of a church full of people?
 
Never been to a Protestant church and not sure if it exists in my country but how do they differ exactly? won’t the church be full of people as well and the priest leading the prayers? 🤷

It depends on the particular protestant church.

For example, a close friend of mine is a protestant. At her church, the pastor (not a priest, totally different) reads from the Bible and preaches from what he reads. Unlike the Catholic church, it’s readings of his choice, which means he can choose not to ever preach on certain books.

Members of the congregation often take notes on what he says.

There is quite a bit of music there. Once a month or so there is communion, but for them it’s just a symbol. I’m also pretty sure they use juice, not wine.

Once a month they don’t have the Bible readings, but they have other things. They might have witnessing, for example. On Mother’s Day, they had videos and music.

I don’t know if they offer an altar call there, but many protestant churches do.

To enter into the Living Silece with Friends and meet with the Real Presence as He moves in our midst to teach us Himself. To share in this Living Experience of the Divine Presence and join in fellowship with the One who “speaks to our condition.”
 
Actually… my kids get mad if I am sick and cannot take them… they love to go to mass as do I… Both to learn and to worship. You know it occurs to me that only giving one hour of worship to the One who created all is pretty shabby… I may not be able to attend mass daily but you can bet your life I pray daily… many times most of the day… my goal is to make my life a prayer to worship with my whole being all the time…
