Poll - for converts and reverts only

I’m just curious. Over the past decade or so, I’ve noticed a trend with converts. If anyone reading this is either a convert or revert to ANY religion (this includes Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Atheists, Agnostics, Trekkies ;), etc… ) or has experienced a strong conversion in their original faith from lax to devout, please take this poll.

This poll is concerned ONLY with the age that you BEGAN your conversion. If you’re not sure, just guess to the best of your ability. Like I said, I’ve seen a trend, and just want to confirm or discount it with this casual poll.

If you want to post info about your conversion, you’re more than welcome. Rude comments or nasty remarks are discouraged, however.

I’ll start: I was approximately 33 years old when I began my reversion back to Catholicism.

After a couple years in ‘New Age’ spiritualism…

at 39 years old, I went through RCIA…

The Truth shall set you free…
 
I began my RCIA journey last year, at the age of 19. Although my father has always been a Catholic, I was not raised in any faith, and have just recently come home to the Church 🙂
 
I was 18 when I converted from the Catholic Church to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I requested a Book of Mormon when I was around 16 (much to the horror of my parents because little did I know that the missionaries would call my house :D), but didn’t actually read it and investigate until 17-18.
 
I converted to the Orthodox Church when I was 33; now reverting back to the Catholic Church at the ripe old age of 35 going on 36.

Didn’t take me long to learn the grass wasn’t greener, at least not for me and my family. 🙂
 
Well so far, the trend I had seen during these last 10 years of conversing with and hearing about other’s conversions is being confirmed. I’d have to wait until the poll’s been up a while to conclude anything, though. You all know how fickle polls can be! 😉 And even then, this isn’t a scientific poll, so it won’t be worth diddly. But at least I can get a bit broader idea than just my own experience.

I can see what you mean - seems to be a definite spike in the age range of the 30s. I suppose that’s the stage when most people are old enough to be disillusioned with materialism and other unfortunate societal trends, and young enough to have the mental and spiritual energy to make the change and convert/revert.
 
I was raised as a cradle Catholic. By the time I was 15 I quit going to mass. I totally dropped out so to speak. My only concern was me. I’m ashamed to admit that, but that’s the truth.

Fastforward to my 39th year. I became fed up. Period. You name it, I was fed up with it. I don’t know exactly what triggered it, maybe thinking about hitting the big 4-0 or what, but I was just not the best person to be around at that time.

At that point the DH & I were talking about God, religion, etc. After he went to bed one night, I went online & started researching Catholicism. Talk about being hit upside the head with a 2x4 as Fr. Corapi likes to say, that was me. :eek: Every waking moment I was online, or running to a bookstore to buy the next book on my “Catholic list” as DH refers to it. 😉 I just could not get enough.

This coming Easter it will be 2 years since I’ve come back. I’m still not in full communion, just need to get this 23 year marriage convalidated. Dh has told me he’s ready to go through with it, so I just need to wait until after Easter to get it done.
 
I was 18 when I entered RCIA, 19 when I was Confirmed. That was two years ago.
 
I started my reversion back to the church when I was 22 and pregnant. I didn’t convert to anything else I just stopped going in my teens although I always believed in God and prayed often. I began to think how we would raise our child, and faith became important to me. My husband joined the RCIA program three years later and came into the church that year -he was 26
 
I was 41 when I found God. Then the journey started as to Where I should go inwhich to worship Him. After much study and praying (a new concept for me), and just a weee bit of tugging from the Holy Spirit, I found my home in the Catholic Church.👍
 
I could have picked both under 20 and in my 20’s.

I became a Christian in high school, 15ish, and then I became Catholic about a year and a half ago at 25.

Remember, though, anyone who reads this: please take the poll even if you didn’t convert to Catholicism. It’s not a poll on Catholic conversions, it’s a poll on ALL conversions to or from Catholicism as well as to or from any religion at all. You don’t have to comment, but please take the poll.

I was in my mid 30’s. I went from wanting my church experience to be something that was pleasing to “me” … (programs, sunday school classes, lots of social activities and worship services that “moved me”) to wanting something that I was certain pleased God.

It became crystal clear to me over the course of a few years that he wanted me to be Catholic. I have thanked Him every single day since.
 
It’s probably starting to wind down now, and I’ve gotten the info I wanted from the results so far. In my own experience, I’ve run across approx 50%+ of the converts I’ve personally met that were in their 30’s. If I hadn’t been in my 30’s myself when I started my re-conversion, I don’t think I would have noticed the coincidence in age.

This leads me to another question that was speculated on by only one other poster…

Why the majority in their 30’s? :hmmm:
 
I became a Christian (in the fundementalist sense) aged 22, became an Anglican (by default) aged 25, fell away from faith entirely aged 28 & converted to Catholicism Easter 2008 aged 37.
 
It sort of began when I was in seminary to become a Protestant minister, at 25, entered RCIA at 26 and confirmed at 27, last Easter. Its not been easy, with jabs at get ats from my family and such, but I know that I made the right choice. I love the Catholic church 😃
