Poll: Holy Water at home?

I’m one of the replies that has a font but hasn’t been using it. This is why I like visiting this forum…I get these nudges to get going, live my faith and practice my Catholic beliefs. As soon as I’m done replying I’m going to put some Holy Water in it. We recently moved into our new home and I placed the font near the door going into and out of the garage which should be convenient to remind us to ask for Our Lord’s blessing as we leave and return to our home. When we were having subcontractors coming in to complete their work, as one of them was leaving through this doorway and he was reaching toward the door knob, his hand “accidentally” went into the font. You should have seen his reaction…it was like he received an electrical shock!

We have one at the main entry to our home (it’s the only entry ever used)…one in my bedroom…and one in my chapel…
 
i’ve never, until this moment, thought of getting one. but it’s a great idea, and now i plan to. thanks.
 
I have two, one in the living room and one in the bedroom. I grew up with several in our home. I find it to be a great sacramental. Even my grandchildren get blessed when they are over. My oldest son would have the football team over in between practices and as he would bless himself many of them not even Catholic would follow. It is one of the things in my house that I am always glad to say is constantly being refilled.👍

No on the “font”, yes on Holy Water. From reading all the posts it is apparent that much of our wonderful Catholic heritage has been lost but fortunately there are still some who remember. To those who are not aware, we have a wonderful debth that is so glorious to delve into. Personally, I like to have Easter water first. No magic here but we Catholics have “sacramentals” and “blessed water”, i.e. Holy Water is one of them. Please, those who don’t share our beliefs ,should not make disparaging remarks. Catholics who have not been taught correctly should not either. If one asks a courteous question there are many “well-informed” Catholics in all of these forums who would willingly answer them. It is disturbing to see rancor and is one of the reasons I dropped out and stayed away from forums for a while.

None of these answers really fit since we have 3. My mother gave my son one for a Baptism present (a Hummel Shepherd) but both boys wanted HW fonts with their Patron Saints. Those are in their rooms and the little Shepherd went to the guest room.

I have one that I bought for my CCE classroom too and the kids really give me a hard time if I forget to refill it. 🙂
 
One other thing. Since my diocese has almost universally adopted the unfortunate (and forbidden) practice of emptying the Holy Water fonts for Lent, I make sure to fill up all my bottle before Ash Wednesday. It’s bad enough to go without in Church, I don’t want to run out at home too. 😃
 
New Mexico is tough on holy water fonts. I try but often come up dry.
 
Joanna, AZ is also rather dry and that is why “we’ins” have bottles instead. God bless the person who “fills-up” before Lent. Where there is a will there is a way, as the saying goes. We endure, we persevere.

LaVada, I’m with you! I’ve got bottles stashed in every room. Holy salt sprinkled about, too. Perhaps, putting blessed salt in the font, makes more sense?

I would be nervous if I had people in my house who recoiled from Holy Water. :rotfl:
 
We have a holy water font by our door, i use it every time
i leave the house. i have several different containers, so i
always have some. When we visit Shrines, i try to get
some holy water. Awesome sacramental!
 
At my parish, I make sure that the altar servers, empty the holy water fontsafter the Gloria is sung, at the Holy Thursday mass and then refilled after the Gloria is sung at the Easter Vigil (as per GIRM). The remainder of mthe time they are kept filled. However at my sister’s parish, the pastor had the bad habit of filling the fonts with sand, throughout lent.
 
I sprinkle holy water on my bed before I go to sleep. The devil and his minions cannot stand holy water or sacramentals. I also sprinkle some holy water on the floor, for the holy souls in purgatory. And of course, I use it to make the sign of the cross on myself. I keep it in a bottle, because it evaporates very quickly from the font, and because the font I have holds so very little and is hard to pour in to.
 
My mom bought a bottle of holy water from somewhere (it was like a Catholic shrine or some thing in Wisconsin) even though we weren’t/aren’t Catholic. I used it to baptize my baby dolls when I was little. I even used the book of prayer or w/e so I was saying the right words!! lol :rotfl:
 
I dont have a font either, but we have many bottles of holy water in our home. I will try a font, hopefully the water will last 🙂
 
We have 5 holy water fonts three of which were gifts. Out of the five holy water fonts we have two hanging up, one by the front door and one by the back door. Both of these holy water fonts are empty. We seem to go through phases of having them filled for a few weeks and then they may be empty for a few months. This thread has reminded me to fill them up again.
 
I do not have a holy water font in my home…though I have long wanted one…But, I do have two small bottles of holy water. One is mine, and one belongs to my six year old grandson…His family goes to a protestant church, but he is fascinated by all things Catholic.
