I’ve considered leaving many times now, even right up to the day of my Confirmation. That said, however, I came to grips at the last moment: I’ve been led to the Catholic Church throughout most of my life, and I was finally confirmed, and I was joyous about it.

However, that being said, I have seriously considered Orthodoxy since then quite a few times; it’s largely been some of the insights I’ve seen on this forum and the Eastern Catholic forum, as well as somehow being able to remind myself of the faith journey I took to get to the Catholic Church, that have caught me and kept me hanging on to the Catholic Church, despite the great arguments put forward against the Papacy in the form it takes today. I still feel I’m being called Eastward, but it’s strange… In the reservation chapel before the Blessed Sacrament, I seem to get a resounding urge to go to my Ruthenian Catholic parish rather than the much-closer ACROD mission, but at home, there is where I look with great interest into Orthodoxy.

It’s a battle to even know where to go, and I firmly believe that anyone who says that leaving the Catholic Church is either a matter of pride or being poorly catechized, or even facing abusive priests or an unwelcoming community, simply doesn’t know what it’s like to feel this way.

there’s only one Church that Christ established and it is the Roman Catholic Church. I dont know much about the Eastern churches but I’m sure they are in schizm…

Well, either the Roman or Eastern Church is in schism. My faith lies in the Roman Church, but the Easterners have valid arguments from what I remember. That is not an argument to be dismissive on.

=distracted;6945396]I usually get irritated (used to) when i hear of a Catholic who wants to leave the Church. I think to myself: How could that person leave the Mass? the Sacraments? the Real Presence?
Of course a lot of them aren’t catechized & have never spent much time in the Real Presence…😦
but that being said, i often (nowadays) do not get so irritated. I can understand why people leave… rude, apathetic priests, unorthodox homilies, hypocricy… etc… Well, i can understand them wanting to leave, but i still have a problem with them actually leaving.
I have never heard a story of someone wanting to leave, talking to the priest about it and being talked out of it… I’m sure it happens… but it almost seems like a lot of priests don’t really care… (?)
As the Second largest denomination in the USA is Fallen Away Catholics; many reason would seem to come into play.

NONE OF THEM SUFFICIENT to justify such a decision, pramont to freely choosing hell.

If Catechesis [the lack of] is the reason given; there are numerous ways to overcome this state with applied effort.

If diagreemnt with this issue or that issue caused the split; God expects us to do it HIS WAY. And He never claimed it would be easy.

Phil.2: 8 “And being found in human form he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross Luke.9 :23 And he said to all, "If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. Mark.8: 34 And he called to him the multitude with his disciples, and said to them, "If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. Luke.9: 23 And he said to all, "If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. Luke.14: 7 Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me, cannot be my disciple.” Matt.5: 19 “Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. “ Matt.19: 17 “And he said to him, “Why do you ask me about what is good? One there is who is good. If you would enter life, keep the commandments.”

Then there is this: Matt. 16:19 "I [Jesus] give you Peter [Singular on behalf of My CC] THEE Keys to the Kingdom of Heaven.

GOD WILL JUDGE US BASED ON WHAT HE ALLOWS US TO KNOW; NOT WHAT WE CHOOSE TO ACCEPT!

***No one can have received the Body, Blood, Sould and Divinity of the Risen Christ and then walk away from it. Such an action is denial of God: The unforgivable sin!’ ***

A GREAT MANY, Bishops, Priest, religious are going to have serious accounting for there poor catechesis, poor example, and public desent. God have Mercy on them!

Matt.18: [6] but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened round his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea. 10] “See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I tell you that in heaven their angels always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven.
[14] So it is not the will of my Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.”

God may forgive one who actually does not know BUT never one who refuses to know, or makes no effort to know. If you’ve been a Catholic your in one of the two later catagories. Your very soul is in severe danger! May God grant you Wisdom and understanding.

From my hazy recollection the schism began over which pope at that time was duly elected, the pope in Constantinople or the Pope in Rome. The office which historically help the title was always the Bishop of rome, but when almost all of the hierarchy was headquartered in constantinople, with TWO seemingly valid elected popes, which was the REAL pope. It has happened many times, but this one brought true and lasting schism to Christ’s Church. The gulf between the two Churches has since widened with the proclamation of infallibility and the absolute authority of the Pope.

Again, my recollection is hazy at best. And I am biased toward the Latin Rite so take my quick (and likely poor) explanation with a grain of salt.

i tend to agree totally…

its just that i remember when i was very young and totally uncatechized… didn’t know the hitory of the Church or the teachings (not all of them anyhow)… I didn’t know there really is a Purgatory… My nonCatholic friends empahtically told me there wasn’t…& i had 2 agree the word wasn’t in the bible… i didn’t know that the RCC could be trusted cuz it was the one Christ established and the only one… I did kinda “know” unconsciously that this was so, however… i mean, if someone had come up to me then & asked me “Which was the original Church?” and i had to come up with an answer, i would possibly have said the Catholic church…but then agian, maybe i wouldn’t have… cuz i didn’t know any Church history… & plus had been brainwashed by nonCatholics… & some of their arguments sounded so good … esp to someone who doesn’t know much…

i think many Catholics here @ CAF discount, out of hand… the notion of ignorance… There ARE people who are ignornat of Catholicism… and therefore they are not helld accountable for what thye don’t know…

that being said, it still HURTS them not to know… Boy, does it EVER… :ouch::banghead:

Ok…

who are you in the 6.8%??

those who have left the Church…

i see you are too cowardly to comment further… 😃

lol, me?!?!?! I am most certainly not in the “I have left” category. Just making a point.

And I am no Coward!!! I would gladly assault a windmill with my trusty squire pancho:)

I can second that. It makes me unutterably sad, and I do my best to fight ignorance, but my “hammer” method doesnt work so well sometimes…

well hammers are good for getting “nails” into wood…

so maybe you get your point across more than you give yourself credit for??

i don’t believe in certain kinds of heavy handed evangelizing… but sometimes… well, i have felt “led” to say some… what some would call off the wall stuff… even “uncharitable” stuff… but hey… like i always say… Jesus could conceivably called one of the most uncharitable persons in history… (not counting maniacs like Hitler and Stalin… etc… just speaking of those who are verbally…well, you know… not PC)…

he called people liars, fools, hypocrites, perverts…

He was the Ann Coulter of his day… :o

I hope to GOD I read this wrong and didn’t see a comparison between Christ and Ann Coulter. A sickening comparison indeed. Borderline blasphemy…

***Here’s some shocking news, everyone:

Jesus died for Ann Coulter too…

Hard to believe but true… ***

No, seriously, it’s disgusting. I don’t get squeemish easily nor am I Mr. PC, but that’s just outrageous…period. That woman’s insensitivity, character assasinations, dispassion for people who are down and out, patronization of the wealthy only, her sardonic, sarcastic, biting, nasty tone, her insults, and constant negativity, hawkishness, lack of empathy, the cruel things she said about 9/11 victims, oh man, your comparison could very well be the worst one I’ve ever seen on CAF.
oh please…

Uh, hello, dying for someone and BEING LIKE someone, kinda two different things…

Jesus died for Hitler and Manson, too, but should I compare Him with them?

Dude… you need to take a veg pill… you take her entirely TOO seroiusly…

again, you take people far too seriously…

nowhere (for one thing) did i mention anyone dying for anyone… or compare A Coulter to Jesus in any seroius or significant way…

you are making a mountain out of a mole hill…

ever heard of the word Facetious?? Got a dicitonary?

It’s ironic that you ask me if I have a dictionary and spell “dictionary” wrong. As Bill Shatner said in Airplane II, “irony can be pretty ironic sometimes.”

In post 114 in one Godzilla-sized font you posted that Jesus died for Ann Coulter. Now you say you didn’t? I’m confused.

I’m not making a mountain out of a mole hill. You know me by now and you’ve followed my posts. They’re not lacking in humor or laughing at the jokes of others by a long shot. I think comparing Jesus to anyone is just taboo for me. I am indeed sensitive about blasphemy. Ann Coulter is just a wretchedly nasty woman and I can’t imagine the comparison, that’s all. I’m not saying it was significant, it’s just disturbing :mad:
