Why ? You thinking of converting to Roman Catholicism ? šŸ˜‰
Huh? I am a Catholic. There is no conversion possible to ā€œRomanā€ Catholicism.

No I am not planning on joining the Latin Catholic Church as I am as fully Catholic as you are.

Though I do belong to an order that is part of the Latin Church.

If you knew anything about the Byzantine Catholic Churches you would know that we receive on the tongue. We also receive by intinction.

Just because the Holy Father chooses to distribute communion on the tongue only does not mean that he requires this of the whole Church. Those not in the Holy Father’s line may be receiving in the Hand and the Holy Father has not removed the right of the bishops to decide this for their diocese.

So one can not say that the Holy Father wants the whole Church to do so because if he did he could make it so.

Not at all true. You are ignorant of the history of the situation.
How ridiculous. I just quoted the direct words of the Pope which said that the reason why the SSPX is invalid is because of the doctrinal questions.
It may surprise, shock, and infuriate you when the Pope uses these dogmatic discussions to clarify Vatican II teachings in favor of the SSPX position on how they are to be interpreted.
If the Pope agrees with the SSPX interpretation of Vatican II then why are you not in full communion with him. In fact, Vatican II can be interpreted in the light of tradition. Which is of course how it was intended to be interpreted right from the beginning. If wicked modernists took occassion to twist and distort the words of Vatican II to push their agendas then that is the problem of wicked modernists not Vatican II.
Hopefully, you will not go into schism at the prospect the SSPX may be correct on these issues and if so, hopefully, you will say prayers of repentance for persecuting those whose only intention is to preserve our Catholic faith.
One of the key attributes of the Catholic faith is obedience to the supreme pontiff. Augustine said as much
Now this Head is Christ Himself, Whose viceregent in the Church is the Sovereign Pontiff. Wherefore schismatics are those who refuse to submit to the Sovereign Pontiff, and to hold communion with those members of the Church who acknowledge his supremacy.
That’s exactly what the SSPX do. They refuse to have communion with Novus Ordo Catholics who are in full communion with the Sovereign Pontiff. Also the SSPX refuse to obey the Sovereign Pontiff. Therefore by Augustines definition the SSPX are schismatics. Well and truly.

You do believe Augustine don’t you. If you are in the business of preserving the Catholic faith then you certainly must agree with him.
I am looking forward to having to live with the result of these discussions. I hope you are also.
It’s no bother to me. I am in full communion with the Sovereign Pontiff. The SSPX are not. I hope and pray for the sake of the SSPX themselves that they will obey and submit to the Sovereign Pontiff. You are the one who needs to worry about these discussions. If the negotiations fail then worst case the SSPX will go down the sedevacantist track which Lefebvre toyed with. The SSPX people have a habit of going down this track when they don’t get their way as we saw with the horrendous SSPV debacle. My assessment is that if as a result of the talks the SSPX were to come into full communion with the Pope a good third of their number would break off and become the SSPY or SSPZ. Whereas if talks utterly fail and the SSPX were to become sedevacantist, then a good third of the SSPX will leave and join the FSSP.

Msgr Fellay will not like either option. He is in the business of building up and maintaining his empire, so he will make sure that he orchestrates no change as a result of the talks. He will seek to maintain the status quo.
This lamentable twilight zone of being neither quite in or neither quite out of the church will continue for a long time to come and these talks are all a waste of time.

Here is another interesting quote for the schismatic SSPX to consider.
By Augustine quoting Jerome
ā€œat the outset it is possible, in a certain respect, to find a difference between schism and heresy: yet there is no schism that does not devise some heresy for itself, that it may appear to have had a reason for separating from the Church.ā€
So you reckon there is no heresy in the SSPX then why are they seperated from the church? What is their excuse. My advice to SSPX members is to give the organisation the flick and go and join the FSSP which are in full communion with the church.

How can the Pope saying that the SSPX has no canonical status and that all her priests have NO VALID ministry be anything other than a direct command to:
Because it is not. We must stick to only what is said, and not what it means, as that opens the door to interpretation. Two other explainations is that their ministry is occurring outside the visible Church in an authoritative since, and that their ministry they do is not valid, not in a Sacramental sense, but in the sense it was used.

So you reckon there is no heresy in the SSPX then why are they seperated from the church? What is their excuse.
The differences with the SSPX have always been disciplinary in nature. Not once has the Catholic Church leveled the claim of heresy against them. A person can separate from the Church any number of ways. Sin, for example.

I think you’re missing the point. There are doctrinal questions because Vatican II (it’s nebulous ā€œspiritā€) is not at all clear. Until those things get cleared up, the SSPX is right to be hesitant with regard to blindly taking a leap into territories where even the Church is still unclear about what Vatican II said exactly. On the other hand, the SSPX doesn’t teach anything that didn’t already belong to the deposit of faith, and they don’t reject any Catholic dogma. Nobody is disputing that except for you. Earlier you said:
Sorry but these problems do not justify schism. In fact nothing justifies schism. The FSSP have cleared up the nebulous ā€œspiritā€ and have upheld a traditional interpretation of Vatican II. There is no nebulous ā€œspiritā€ in the FSSP and they are able to have full communion with the Sovereign Pontiff. So why can’t the SSPX?
Ok…But there aren’t any proper interpretations of Vatican II yet. There certainly are still questions regarding what the heck certain things mean.
Confusion of what something means does not justify schism.
Even you are confused about certain things, including what the SSPX believes and doesn’t believe. You also said:
The SSPX is very clear that the new Mass and sacraments are valid if done properly. Nobody is saying otherwise (except you and maybe a few others who are still confused).
Which is just another way of saying that it is invalid when done improperly. Clearly the SSPX regard every NO mass as being done improperly and therefore being invalid because they prevent their people from attending NO masses, even weddings. In fact they ostracise their own people if they attend NO masses.

Not against the SSPX as a whole, but several of the members thereof have publically questioned the validity of the pope and the ordinations of priests within the main body of the Roman Church.

And then there’s Bp. Williamson…

Yes, and because the society as a whole refused to question the validity of the Pope, sedevacantist formed the SSPV in 1989. I am sure some members have questions still and the danger of developing a schismatic mindset remains. Still, the Vatican and the SSPX are involved in discussions while the SSPX is still operating. These are two facts, not opinions.

And Hans Kung…

Show me the declaration of schism. A schismatic act is not the same as schism.
Good for the FSSP…I attend Mass there also…But what about the rest of the church? There’s still a lot of confusion over the ā€œspiritā€ in the rest of the church. The FSSP, like the SSPX, is small. The SSPX will have full communion in time (my strong opinion) but they are still discussing certainā€¦ā€œspirityā€ā€¦things with Rome.
Confusion of what something means does not justify schism.
Well said. Again, where’s the schism? All we’ve been hearing is that Lefebvre et al commited a schismatic act, and yet anybody who’s anybody in Rome keeps denying that there is actually a schism.
Which is just another way of saying that it is invalid when done improperly.
There are certain conditions that must be met for a sacrament to be valid . All I said is that the new sacraments are valid if done properly.
Clearly the SSPX regard every NO mass as being done improperly and therefore being invalid because they prevent their people from attending NO masses, even weddings.
Clearly, you like to make hasty and uncharitable assumptions. If they are done by the book, what reason should I, or the SSPX, have for doubting their validity?

Also, they PREVENT their people (I assume you are talking about parishioners) from attending NO Masses??? Wow, this is news to me. I know they have warned against it with several prudent reasons given, but I didn’t know they had ever prevented it. I was just at my brother’s wedding one month ago! I’m glad my car didn’t mysteriously explode on the way out there!
In fact they ostracise their own people if they attend NO masses.
Hmmm, it’s been a month since my last one…How long do I have to wait for the ostracization to kick in?

Just check the last two years news for him…
Everybody makes mistakes. At least they were secular, and his faith is solid. What are the other guys’ excuses??? Don’t answer that, it’s not part of this thread. Just sayin’, though.

Yes. All of these are people.
Yes, and this serves as a reminder that there are regularized and ā€œin communionā€ clergy who publicly dissent from the teachings of the Pope(s) and disagree on both disciplinary issues and faith and moral issues to a significant degree without reproach.

It boils down to the ā€œin communionā€ label having only an organizational or structural significance since some who publicly criticize the Pope and the church incur neither suspension nor public rebuke. ā€œIn communionā€ merely means ā€˜recognized’ and most certainly does not signify a Catholic orthodoxy or adherence to the faith.

So he spoke what he believes is the truth. That is wrong?
When the pope has declared what you believe to be immoral, yes.
When you’re a cleric and told to not speak publically of something and do so anyway, yes.
When you create controversy that reflects poorly on your superior general AND the pope, absolutely.
When you actively support a schismatic group that’s unrepentant, yes.
