Poll: Plurality Oppose Kagan But Most Expect Senate to Confirm Her

Washington, DC – A new Rasmussen Reports poll released today shows a plurality of Americans oppose the nomination of pro-abortion activist Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court, but it also reveals a large majority of Americans believe the Senate
will confirm her to replace pro-abortion Justice John Paul Stevens.

Because she is so controversial, confirmation should be deferred until after the November elections.

The elections are not that far away, so it would be no big deal to delay a few months.

It would be very reasonable to postpone given her refusal to acknowledge the Ninth Amendment of the Bill of Rights [not to mention the origin of rights as delineated in the Declaration of Independence.]

Although she looks pretty normal, in fact, she is a radical based on what we have read of her writing. The delay would give time for the American people to read what else she has written. Since she is not a judge, we need to read her non-judicial writings to get a better sense of what her approach to precedent would be. Her papers are, unfortunately, locked up in the Clinton White House files.

If she were pretty and protestant she’d be confirmed already.

It doesn’t matter to this Congress what the American people think. They will push their agenda through. Remember healthcare?

She is sort of an extremely radical Harriet Meyers.

Definitely not Supreme Court material.

Monte, that is just too sensible. This bunch in control now will never cede one ounce of power as long as they have it. And the damage they are doing to this country and the Constitution is scary. My staunch Catholic Irish ancestors are turning in their graves. Anyone who says they have always been a Democrat should explain to me how that can be true when the party has changed so much. I wait to be educated.

The whole idea of waiting until after elections to vote on a nominee is just silly.
Imagine a headline from DailyKOS, “Plurality Opposes Roberts Nomination”, I bet you would have found the idea outrageous.

Whether it’s Kagan, Roberts or Solomon, Constitutionally it is the Senate’s job to confirm without unreasonable delay. In principle senators shouldn’t even care what opinion polls about the nominee show.

As for Kagan influencing the American College of Ob-Gyns, I think that reflects far worse on them (that they went along) than on her.
