And there wren’t schools. . . .
The 1st Century Jews were educated. The local Synagogue had a school.

You can read much about the people and society where Christ grew up. One article out of so many:

Thank you Traddy, this insight is helpful. I’m really trying to figure out what to do. I still have to work so fortunately my children are not small but I am having to arrange my schedule and I’m not sure how to do that.

Yes, it is a parish school supported by the diocese. But it’s a high school.

Can share with me what he could do? The high school is not attached to a parish but they do have a chaplain.

Yes, it is a parish school
That was the information that caused my suggestion. If it is not a parish school, the school board and principal/super would be your recourse. It is not uncommon for non-parish schools to have more restrictive scholarship policies.

Being the case, I would apply for scholarships at private schools (not private schools run by fundamentalist Christian groups), look at charter schools, look at the scores for public schools and find the very best in your district.

Live the Faith at home, engage your teens in CYM and works of mercy.

Our kids go to public schools.

I find that public schools get quite the bad rap here for some reason…makes it sound like the kids are going to prison.

Anyway, we went the public school route as they provide more opportunities in school, stronger technology, etc…

There wouldn’t have been anything even close to universal open enrollment schools; any teaching would generally at home, save possibly, I suppose, what would be needed for men to participate religiously, which I presume would be at the synagogue or temple.
This is not true. Education at synagogue schools for Jewish boys was almost universal at the time if Christ. IIRC there were over 400 of these schools in Jerusalem alone. Literacy among Jewish men at the time if Christ was likely close to 100%

Of course she did, as do all mother’s. But Jesus very likely attended a synagogue school.
