Gosh, 19 months is a baby, not a man. :( I just don’t like that phrase, it usually implies that a “man” is made through toughness. Not true. Little boys need gentleness and a safe , child proof environment also.

It seems he thinks it’s not a problem to give a baby a razor. He should acknowledge that he was incorrect.

I wouldn’t buy the baby a toy razor set either, At this age he can’t figure out the difference between a toy and the real thing. What if he finds the real thing, and plays with it?

Prayers.
I agree, plenty of time for that sort of thing, but a baby doesn’t need it!

Thank you all for your comments and opinions, and support.

I especially would like to hear from more men. I saw a few, I think were men, that commented. Especially on the “I am going to make a man out of him” attitude. That wreaks of insecurity in one’s own manhood, in my opinion. It wreaks of the thought process that he is worried how our son will reflect on the father (it all seems self centered).

I can tell you guys too, I am no prissy girl. I grew up with 2 brothers in a neighborhood of boys. My son is not being forced to put on pink dresses or anything, so there is no danger of him somehow turning into a girl. The insecurity comes directly from the source.

Ok, I just have to check myself here- I am being called “over protective” b/c when my husband handed our 19mo old son a shaving razor (no guard) and encouraged him to “shave” and or shave him I mentioned that might not be a good idea.
It is probably not “over protective” to mention to him that it might night be a good idea. Anything more than that probably would be though. I am sure he wouldn’t have given his son a razor if he thought it was dangerous.
Your husband is lucky that this is an anonymous forum. If we knew who he was, we would have to report him to child protective services.
Therefore folks, watch what you say. Never know who is looking to report you for something.

Well, a log time ago I knew a couple who would let their toddler play with a razor that had had the blades removed. As the llittle girl got older, she would “play” shaving ehr legs.

I wasn’t comfortable with that, but perhaps it was because they’d also let their little girl wear adult-style clothes that would be immodest on any adult! I thought that:

a) the child was being deprived of her childhood and childhood activites (for example, she was 3-4 years old wearing makeup in family pictures, not “play” makeup) and

b) although she was trying to act “grown up,” it was adding to sexualization (for example, she was 5 when she was allowed to wear suede miniskirts and high-heeled boots).

It was incongruous. It’s great when a child wants to emulate and adult BUT he has to be done a)in context b) in moderation c) with appropriate activites d) safely.

As for your situation, I don’t think that a 19mo old has the greatest coordination NOT to go sideways with the razor, ending up with a goodly-sized nick and perhaps a staph infection.

You are sure he wouldn’t give his son a razor if he thought it was dangerous:hypno::doh2: Have you never seen a razor? It’s not a child’s toy. Never okay to give to a kids, esp. a 19 month old!!! It was a crazy, stupid thing to do and I would be afraid of leaving my child with someone that dumb! What’s next? Here Johnny, play with this fun bag of broken glass. How about some bathroom cleaner too. Come on! There are some things you just don’t do. Giving a razor to a kid is one of them!

 You are correct. For some reason, I somehow thought it was without the blade. 😊

No, he gave his baby a razor with a blade in it!! I don’t know what is wrong with some people. That poor baby could have gotten really badly hurt, for what. So he can make a “man” out him. It makes no sense to me at all.😦

It was bladed. Dad was a few feet away. Still, why? I think he did it purposely to bother me.

What she said.
Sheesh. I wouldn’t let a baby play with a toy razor, even. Just in case it gave him ideas.
I will tell you a little family story: My grandmother caught her niece (about the same age, a little older) with her father’s :bigyikes: cut-throat razor. She spanked the daylights out of her…
The father said, when she told him, that he had “told her that it must be hers because it has a pearl handle and her name is Pearl”.
Pearl’s mother (my grandmother’s big sister) told my grandmother to “just ignore anything that [F**] says…I always do. And don’t ever trust him with the baby. He’s considerably more of a child than Pearl is”.
[This is no doubt carppy marriage advice. But its mine:twocents:].

If my husband endangered my child’s life on purpose just to “bother me” I would leave with WITHOUT QUESTION. I have an obligation as a Mother to protect my child from **anyone **who is wanting to do him harm. Your husband may not have intended your child to get hurt, and thank God he wasn’t… but because he did that just to bug you he must’ve KNOWN it was wrong and I seriously question his character at the very least and more likely his sanity.

I too misread your thread title and thought you were talking about your 19 YEAR old son and even then, I had to think about it. A baby? What next… here are some steak knives… have a ball?

I am sorry you are having to deal with this. 😦
