Hello everybody ,

I might be mistaken but i thought i saw polycarp being mentioned in the bible. Would appreciate it if someone could quote the chapter and verse.:hugs:

I don’t think he is mentioned in the New Testament.
Our main sources are two epistles bearing his name included in the Apostolic Fathers, Letter to the Philippians and Martyrdom of Polycarp.
Also, Ignatius of Antioch, Papias, and Irenaeus speak of him. According to Saint Jerome, he was a disciple of Saint John who made him Bishop of Smyrna. I don’t think he is mentioned in any of the canonical New Testament books. Probably just for some reason that he didn’t come along until later or he just wasn’t mentioned when they were written.

It is my understanding that there is a legend that St Ignatius of Antioch was the child whom Jesus Christ took up in his arms as described in Mark 9:35. (source)
