I wouldn’t necessarily assume that they were distinguished from Neanderthals. There is evidence that Neanderthals engaged in religious rites. They had a larger brain cranium, on average, than modern humans do. I for one suspect that Adam and Eve predate the divergence of Homo Sapiens and Homo neanderthalensis. Of course, this is nothing but speculation.
We have Neanderthal in us. Humans interbred with them.

What exactly do you believe?
I’m here to learn too. I believe there is no species-to-species evolution. I think God created each species individually, unable to breed with other species, except in cases of strange unions.

As for hominids, I actually don’t know what to believe about them. I think, they might just be abnormalities of nature, lke the mule, where one species gets mixed up with the other, but are not fertile, unable to perpetuate the offspring.

What do you think about the idea of the Catholic Church’s concept of a human being with a soul?

I definitely believe we were given souls at conception.

so why don’t you believe apes evolved into humans?
I believe there were human-like hominids that looked like humans and humans bred (who were evolved) with them and were given souls, which would explain why there has never been fewer than 10,000 humans on the earth.

That doesn’t really make any sense at all. Why 10,000?

That’s what I read. I don’t know why the WERE only around 10,000 people on earth, just that there were.
Just looked at Wikipedia (bad source I know) and it said there was never a human bottleneck of fewer than 1000 to 10,000 people. I don’t think I ever read it beng as low as 1000, but that’s wikipedia for ya.

Look up population bottlenecks.

Speculation at this point. A nice article about what the soul is.

How could 10,000 people spontaneously appear on earth? That’s really nuts!

They didn’t just appear, they evolved. Can someone else chime in here – I know there are posters far well educated than I am on this subject who can explain it better than I can.

Okay, how did 10,000 humans suddenly **evolve **on earth at the same time? I’m just trying to point out how goofy science can be. Adam and Eve makes more sense to me.

Not to me. I’m sure they were born, lived, more were born, some died while other lived longer lives, more born, etc. until there were 10,000.

Okay, but if one or two were born at first, how could there be 10,000 at the same time? It just doesn’t add up.

Let’s just follow the scientific model: supposing a mutation occurs and a baby (let’s call him Adam) is born fully human with a soul. Then another mutation occurs and a female baby is born fully human (let’s call her Eve). Then they mate and have fully human children. Eventually there are 10,000 humans and more.

Or do you believe that at some point in time 10,000 spontaneous mutations occurred and there were suddenly 10,000 humans on earth?
