If one truly turns back to God and despises his sins from his past and really with all his heart wants to be reconcilled with God. i mean a fallen-away catholic; and tries to make good confessions, not all at once but spread out over few weeks are ALL of his past sins forgiven and forgotten about or only the ones that were mentioned during the confessions.

Just pondering. Might help scrupulosity.

Ps. I found a lovely God-praising song on Youtube to keep you all filled with fervour. I know its from a protestant denomination but it’s still a great Heart filled song of love for Jesus. youtube.com/watch?v=-s7QNpqiqsc

Thanks and God bless :signofcross:

Gladly!
I will keep you in my prayers and daily Masses, and I’m sure others will too!

God bless you for your sincere response to grace, and to the Lord’s welcome of you.
I feel proud of you! 🙂

Over the course of time – it might be years in the future, different aspects of sins of the past will come to your mind. You might also forget if you confessed something when it returns to memory. First – all of those sins have already been forgiven in prior confessions. Second, it can be helpful to just mention an old sin, without dwelling on it in confession – just to renew your repentance.

St. Alphonsus Liguori is the patron saint against scruples. Pray to him for help.

It depends on whether or not you truly forgot to mention a sin, or you deliberately chose not to confess one.

If you don’t mention a grave sin because you truly forgot about it, then the sin is forgiven.

If you deliberately hold back a grave sin in confession, NONE of the sins you confessed are absolved and all of them will need to be re-confessed, plus you add another grave sin of a bad confession. You cannot deliberately plan to confess over the course of a few weeks, if that is what you’re asking.

I recommend getting a good examination of conscience and making a list to take with you. Below is a very thorough examination of conscience that you might find helpful:
