I saw an article where people are claiming the “Vatican” is calling for a world economic power to control the global economy. Anyway, they said the suggestion was made by the Pontifical Council on Justice and Peace. I seem to remember a while back a body within the Church, I think it was this one, which issued a strange declaration and people were saying it was issued by “the Vatican”. Can anyone help me out here? Do you know what this was?

You’re probably looking for this document:

Towards Reforming the International Financial and Monetary Systems in the Context of Global Public Authority

I remember all the hulabaloo when this document came out back in the latter part of 2011.

The media does tend to misuse the term “Vatican”. They often make it sound like every note from every department in the Vatican (and even editorials from the Vatican’s quasi-official newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano) all carry equal weight and/or are presecriptive commands from the mouth of the Pope. That is not always the case. It depends on the document and where it comes from.

This document was offered by the PCJP as a reflection on the current global fiscal crisis that they hope world leaders will find helpful. It doesn’t represent some sort of official doctrinal mandate for the world to become a Brave New World.

People don’t seem to like to read things in context anymore. 🤷
