Just wanted to share that I experienced my first EF Pontifical High Mass yesterday. It was absolutely breath taking. (I have been to numerous EF masses…just never with a bishop). Bishop Athanasius Schneider was here in Vancouver :).

They are indeed beautiful. And, according to Bishop Sample, a Pontifical Solemn High Mass is the most solemn form of the Mass.

They are indeed awe inspiring. I have left feeling on such a spiritual high. A blessed experience.

A couple of our friends drove up to Vancouver for that Mass and to listen to the Abp.

Holy Family parish is very Blessed. 👍

Yes, and their schola is amazing (sometimes directed by the locally famous Mark Donnelly). They sang at the cathedral downtown when we had a solemn high mass there in August.

The bishop of the diocese i go to school in was giving a presentation on the Council of Trent for class and he mentioned how he has celebrated a pontifical high Mass, he said its beautiful though the layer upon layer of liturgical gear the guy has to wear seemed a bit over the top.
How long do those things usually go, I’m kind of curious to see one someday in person.

In this case the mass itself was about two hours, though the schola sang Terce and various pieces for a half hour or so prior to mass while His Excellency vested. His Excellency also processed through the church with the Cappa Magna prior to mass. The length of the mass would depend greatly on the musical settings chosen, the length of the homily, etc.

I’m so jealous. 👍
