Does anyone know where I might obtain an English translation of Paul VI’s Apostolic Letter motu proprio Pontificalis Domus?

Here’s Google’s translation from the Italian. It’s not outstanding, but is a lot better than I was expecting.

I did a Google translation - I did it from the Latin version. Just wondering if there’s an English translation out there.
It doesn’t appear that an official English translation was ever issued.

I didn’t realize Google had a Latin translator.

OK, but sometimes I’ve found documents even if there was never an official translation. I’ve done a search but found nothing so that’s when I came on here to see if anyone knew of one.

I think Google has only added Latin recently. I read a review of it somewhere recently and I wish I could remember the link to give you as you might be interested. Like any online translator it isn’t perfect but the review I read said it was better than ICEL’s 1970 translation of the Missal.

Now I see the Latin translator. Strangely, it’s available at translate.google.com/ , but not at google.com/language_tools?hl=en which is where you go when you click on Language Tools next to the search box on Google’s home page.

In announcing the new Latin translation service, Google predicted translations would be among the most accurate from any language. Not true here:

pm me your email address and I might be able to send you send a scan.
Is there a book or periodical in which a translation was printed?

Here it is…IN PLAIN ENGLISH. I have Google Chrome, and it has it’s own little option where It can translate any foreign language for me if I want. I copied and pasted this from the Vatican’s official site But due to limitations on this site I can’t put it all in one post. Enjoy:D

"The Pontifical House, who in the course of centuries has formed with long process, varied and complex in response to several needs, relative to the person and mission of the Pope, has always been a body of unique decorative and useful gravitating around the Chair of Peter in his physiognomy of the spiritual center of the Catholic Church and home of the Vicar of Jesus Christ on earth.

Therefore, as visible head of the Catholic Church and Sovereign of a temporal state, recognized by civil authorities of the various nations, the Pope chose people at all times faithful, capable and able, are in church and in the secular, the which could be worthy to meet the needs of the liturgical service, culminating in the most solemn religious ceremonies at certain times of the life of the Church, as the temporal needs of the state, with all the differentiation of services it required.

But, notes the historical transformations of the modern age, many of the powers entrusted to the Pontifical Household members were deprived of their work, continue to exist as a purely honorary positions, no longer correspond to the realities of the times. On the other hand, the religious mission of the Roman Pontificate took every day new shapes and proportions, so that a realistic view of things requires the Apostolic See, also sometimes painfully - as we said in our first meeting with members of the nobility and Patrician Roman - of abridging and preferred shareholders in its institutions and practices of what is essential and vital. He added that in the whole Church, especially after the Second Vatican Council, both in world public opinion has made its way closer, I’d say more jealous sensitivity to everything that refers to the primacy of the purely spiritual values, the need of truth, order, realism and respect for what is effective, functional, logical, in the face but rather it is only nominal, decorative, exterior.

It seems to us that, at present, the composition of our house after hearing the Pontifical should correspond to those needs, and faithfully reflect the reality of things, emphasizing on the one hand, the essentially spiritual mission of the Roman Pontiff, and the other the singular function that also competes in the reflection of civic life and international.

So we want the members of the Papal Household, both in the Chapel - in the service of the pope as spiritual leader of the Catholic religion - both as regards the family, serving the Pope as sovereign, as head of a company that is legal personality, publicly recognized by states and international organizations, and active and passive right of legation, exercising all functions and activities as effective in the spiritual realm, and in that time, giving the ancient reality that his time had led to the formation of the various officers of the Court, the updated version to the conditions of today, and they request."

Thus, our ancient and praiseworthy Court - to be determined solely by its original name of the noble and the Pontifical House - will continue to shine from its true status, including clergy and lay people who themselves, as well as having particular expertise and authority, they distinguish the services reported in the apostolate, culture, science, the professions, for the good of souls and the glory of the Lord’s name.
