I was once told by a peer that I was not open minded since I did not agree with an issue which the unelected media has proclaimed to be politically correct. I told this person that I did, in fact, consider all sides of the argument, but still rejected the notion. I then asked the person if we are forced to adopt ALL that we are open minded enough to consider. This person actually thought that she wasn’t allowed to disagree with what the unelected pop culture proclaimed, otherwise one would be close minded! Wow. Talk about propaganda, sheep, and close mindedness!

Yes. Moreover, these epithets translate over to logic and the rational argument, too. So, rather than good faith debate, for example, for one side it is who can hurl the epithet before real rationality can begin.

God bless,

Oh yeah. Hypocrisy through and through. Christianity, especially Catholicism, is politically incorrect. If we weren’t, the Church would have crumbled a long time ago. Sorry, but that’s the way it is. The Laws of God do not negotiate. Be accepting of it:D

People whom call themselves open minded are usually the most closed minded people. They will call you closed minded if you do not agree with their lefty world view. Ignore them, they are immersed in the world. We as Catholics are taught to flee from the world. We live in this world yet we are not of this world. Because of this we should not be surprised that those in the world rejects us and our Lord.

Many of these people, I’ve come to realize, really don’t have enough “self-esteem” to actually come to their own conclusions, so they decide the “unelected pop culture” KNOWS MORE than they do, and are wiser, so it is better to believe what THEY believe.
It’s sad since Christinaity is the ULTIMATE in “correct thought.”.👍

It is impossible for anyone to be “open-minded” to everything because there are contradictory ideas. We have to choose between these ideas. People who call you “closed-minded” are also “closed-minded”, since they are closed to *your *opinion, which contradicts theirs.

In my opinion, based on the definition of open-mindedness, I disagree. I think being open-minded means that we give all ideas a fair trial, and dismiss those that are bogus. Being open-minded doesn’t mean you have to agree with everything, or anything for that matter, it just means that you are open to thinking about it.

Sadly, mainstream culture seems to have twisted the term “open-mindedness” to fit only those who agree with the “open minded” It’s circular and self-defining, and a complete fallacy.

I would expand somewhat on what you said and declare that most people today don’t have the gift of Discernment. “All viewpoints are relative,” is their belief. Without discernment, they really come to believe that. We live in an Age Of Lack Of Discernment. 👍

Aye, that’s probably more accurate!👍

Hi OrdinaryMelkite,
Yes, and this general lack of discernment is what fuels moral relativism.
Moral relativism, IMO, is the ultimate in close-mindedness because it refuses to acknowledge that God’s Love is written on every heart. And the price we pay for His Love is obedience to His Church.
God Bless,
Colmcille.
