He condemns blind violence, but this is not really blind violence. It is from one group – clearly focussed on another.

I know I could be wrong but I believe the use of blind violence is that ones hatred is so great that it blinds them from the evil they are inflicting. It is a violence that is blind to the fact that it is violence.

I hope that makes sense.

Yes, it makes perfect sense. Those who kill and feel justified in doing it are most definitely blind. That is what the Pope means.

Very erudite clarification. In light of this tragedy, to parse the Holy Father’s language when clearly only deep sadness and consolation is being conveyed, displays a bias against our pontif, a perspective which I have noticed becoming more prevalent on this site.

Pope Francis is a complex and unconventional man whose gestures, spirituality, and abundant love speak far more clearly than any snippets gleaned from his remarks. If this is not understood by now, then people need to discern his pontificate with more open minds, and hearts.

Reform is not revolution; reformers are not revolutionaries.

Yes, also the second group has been told that opening their borders to the first group was the moral thing to do.

Did the pope say anything about an analysis of the reason why the horror occurred and how to fix the problem?

Possible. I didn’t understand it that way, but I can see it is possible.

I don’t think it was “parsing” – that phrase absolutely jumped out at me when I read it yesterday after reading for hours about this tragedy and the responses to it (like the French PM saying we are at war, but studiously refraining from mentioning exactly who we are at war with).
