One could find the line between “Faith and Morals” and “Science” a tad blurry. Why is GeoCentrism (something that the Catholic Church held to in the past) a science problem (and thus not part of Infalliable Teaching) and not Embryonic Stem Cell Research? Why is Cloneing not Science while Evolution is? Would someone please make this clear so one could understand?

Evolution and Geocentrism have always been around. They don’t alter human life or destroy dignity, or rely on the corpses of murdered babies as a resource.

Cloning and Embryonic stem cell research are new branches of science which have no regard for the sanctity of life.

The church has had a couple of problems here. It has dipped into science and then found itself on the wrong side of the equation. As you point out with Galileo. So they are taking a very careful, slow look at evolution, not wanting to really commit fully because they don’t want to get caught in this problem again.

They come out the way they do on issues of cloning and stem-cell and birth control for that matter simply because it is logically required given their previous stands on things like suicide, murder, etc. Of course the stance on birth control has been a hard pill (no pun intended) for them to swallow since it is almost universally considered as most unhelpful in the fight against HIV/AIDS and other STD’s. But the Church is stuck, and cannot it seems find a way to retreat even should it want to.
