Ending poverty is a great goal; however, not realistic. Jesus said you will always have the poor among you.Two points about this comment:
- The Pope was not speaking specifically to Americans. He was speaking to a group of international workers to end poverty. So there is no need to get all defensive on behalf of the rich in America.
- Looking exclusively at the poor in America is too narrow a view. The world is very connected now. Decisions made in one country affect people living in other countries. Why should the rich in America limit their vision of the poor to just the poor in America?
Poverty, I believe, is caused by greed and evil, and as long as we have those, poverty will unfortunately exist.
We do need to help out those less fortunate be it feeding the homeless, giving to your local food bank, donating clothes, giving to organizations that help the poor, along with other things.
I THINK Pope Francis was not liking the unbridled capitalism, which is so rampant in America. You know, capitalism without God.
I believe it is immoral for insurance companies to not cover a badly needed medication, and equally immoral for pharmaceutical companies to massively overcharge. They need to profit, yes, but the money they make is outrageous and the drugs are usually not as expensive as they make them.
This, to me, is evil. There is a lot of that.
The only thing concerning me is the call for people to open their borders. I just think countries have a right to protect themselves from terrorists. I don’t lock my doors at night because I hate those outside my doors, I lock them to keep the bad people out.
