Two points about this comment:
  1. The Pope was not speaking specifically to Americans. He was speaking to a group of international workers to end poverty. So there is no need to get all defensive on behalf of the rich in America.
  2. Looking exclusively at the poor in America is too narrow a view. The world is very connected now. Decisions made in one country affect people living in other countries. Why should the rich in America limit their vision of the poor to just the poor in America?
Ending poverty is a great goal; however, not realistic. Jesus said you will always have the poor among you.

Poverty, I believe, is caused by greed and evil, and as long as we have those, poverty will unfortunately exist.

We do need to help out those less fortunate be it feeding the homeless, giving to your local food bank, donating clothes, giving to organizations that help the poor, along with other things.

I THINK Pope Francis was not liking the unbridled capitalism, which is so rampant in America. You know, capitalism without God.

I believe it is immoral for insurance companies to not cover a badly needed medication, and equally immoral for pharmaceutical companies to massively overcharge. They need to profit, yes, but the money they make is outrageous and the drugs are usually not as expensive as they make them.

This, to me, is evil. There is a lot of that.

The only thing concerning me is the call for people to open their borders. I just think countries have a right to protect themselves from terrorists. I don’t lock my doors at night because I hate those outside my doors, I lock them to keep the bad people out.

Did you even read what he said? He was talking about those who cause poverty!
No need to shout, brother and even so.

He needs to think about riches anywhere. Cost of eg robes would feed a family for a year. In a very real sense all of us who spend on needless things are causing poverty. Here in Ireland the Church is the biggest landlord / owner of property.

I was watching some of the Chernobyldocumentaries. How the atomic energy firms denied the reality of the deaths and suffering the fallout radiation caused and is causing as that would damage the industry, Seeing the chidlren suffering… Truly the love of money is the root of so much evil; they could have supported and learned

Absolutely- and you are right: it is the LOVE of money that is the root of all evil. So very sad. Sadly, it is the root of many evils in the U.S. Some big corporations deny the deadly effects of their products on people and animals. It is quite disgusting. But we need to pray for the conversion of these people so they may repent and change their ways and despise their doings more than we do.

Some insurance companies are like this too, they expect people to make their payments on time each month, but once a person needs to make a claim, a lot of the time, insurance companies have teams of lawyers on call just to find some legal way out of them having to pay anything.

Completely correct. Insurance companies are like that. They say you can’t be denied, however, they can charge you unaffordable premiums, or not cover your doctor prescribed meds; oh buy hey, you’re not denied! It’s a raquet- you pay premiums, and then they try to not cover claims. I am part of a Christian Health Sharing program. I cancelled my insurance. They were a rip off to me.

If I was shouting I would post in all caps. Don’t bear false witness.

And what does the Church use it for?
