Pope asks Westminster Abbey choir to sing

The Choir of Westminster Abbey in London, England, is due to sing alongside the “Cappella Musicale Pontificia”, or Sistine Choir, on 29 June, in an event which will be broadcast across the world. The Westminster Choir has been invited to the Holy See through Msgr. Massimo Palombella, director of the Sistine Choir.

The Catholic Herald reports that the Abbey Choir has been invited to sing at St Peter’s Rome for the feast of St Peter and Paul. This is the first time in 500 years that the Sistine Chapel Choir has sung with another. The gesture has been described by our Archbishop as a generous ecumenical gesture."

I think this is great news. I do hope some of the discipline and gusto of the Westminster Abbey Choir (and the Anglican Choral tradition) rubs off on the Sistine Chapel choir as when I have heard them (and seen them) they have not performed well.
