ROME — Pope Francis decided the future of his financial reform on Tuesday, issuing a new legal framework for three key oversight bodies that largely confirm the authority of the man he put in charge of his clean-up operation, controversial Australian Cardinal George Pell.
The decision came in the form of a new legal framework approved by the pontiff for the Vatican’s three financial oversight bodies that he created in 2014: The Council for the Economy, the Secretariat for the Economy, and an independent auditor general.
Despite mounting calls from some quarters of the Vatican to rein in Pell, such measures are largely missing from the new statutes, which were signed by Pope Francis on Feb. 22 and became effective March 1.

I like how Crux puts the “accusations” against Pell in paragraph 7 and the defense showing they’re nonsense is at paragraphy 20. Classic journalist tactic to bury something they don’t want people to read (but have to put in).

I also just assume anybody demanding Pell and his office to be “reigned in” has something to hide.

Exactly. Crux is trying very hard to manufacture this made up scenario where Card Pell is “embattled” and “controversial”. The reality is they simply don’t like him because of his positions at the Synod on communion etc.

Good for Cardinal Pell 👍

Are they still debating whether the recent “discovery” of $1.5 billion is worth anything?

The article is entitled… ‘Pope backs embattled financial reformer with new statutes’… It is a perfectly pro Pope/pro Crd. Pell article.
