Was the Pope, before he became Pope involved in hiding Priests who had abused children?

This is the claim put forward by an atheist on YouTube.

No idea. Did he offer some kind of proof? I doubt he was “hiding” anyone.

Why on earth would you believe a YOUtube video? Did you bother to google anything else?

Sources for such an outragous claim please…other then YouTube.

Hiyas:)

That person is more than an Atheist …try anti-Catholic.

**“And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” ( Mt 16:18)
**
These anti-Catholic atheists also say the Successor to Peter was a Nazi because he was conscripted into the Hitler youth, as all German youth at age 14 were required, and was drafted into the Army late in the war.

It is so easy to make false accusations, pray that we spend our time doing something helpful for someone in need!

May God Bless our Holy Father, Papa Benedictus XVI!

Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, Ora Pro Nobis Peccatoribus!

We should never debate unsubstantiated claims. If you start a thread with an assertion against the Church, its teachings or against the Pope YOU have to provide evidence to back up any claim and then we can debate it.
Simply referring us to youtube is just the same as saying “somebody said this” or “I heard”.
Anybody can say anything about anybody!!

The issue was Cardinal Ratzinger reminded people its never permissible to break the seal of confession

The youtuber was probably basing his claim on stuff like this:
guardian.co.uk/world/2005/apr/24/children.childprotection
thisislondon.co.uk/news/article-23369148-pope-led-cover-up-of-child-abuse-by-priests.do
guardian.co.uk/world/2005/apr/24/children.childprotection1

There does appear to be some evidence that the current pope played a role in covering up allegations of sexual abuse. I find this very troubling, and I only hope that the pope’s recent private actions match his recent public statements denouncing the abuse.

He was University Theology Professor, I don’t think he was ever in a position to do anything like that.

The accusations have to do with the contents of a letter he sent in his role as head of the CDF. The OP asks if he was “involved with hiding” clerics. The CDF isn’t the one who moves priests, but the are the one who issue guidelines on how the church conducts their investigations.

The question the press is not answering for you is WHY are these matters and this document secret? They are running with their assumption (and that of lawyers for victims) that all of this is a concoction only to deal with the abuse scandal. Well it’s not the only guidance ever given on how these matters (investigations) are conducted - what about all the previous guidance that also emphasized secrecy, guidance issued long before any abuse scandal?

They’re fanning flames. That’s what the press does. Try and turn an already problematic situation into an overwhelming one so they can write lots of stories on it and sell papers.

Remember the ol’ saying: “Believe half…”

I once saw a YouTube video of a psychologist explaining that atheists who make youtube videos making accusations against the Pope are repressed pedophiles who can’t deal with their desires and seek help to they project malicious intentions onto others.

The OP started this thread then does not participate. What’s the point in opening it in the first place?
