I’m not sure if this is the right forum for this, but it was my best guess. Can someone give me an overview of what’s going on with the priest sex abuse scandal and Pope Benedict supposedly doing all “the dirty work”? I’ve just read a few articles accusing him of supposedly moving priests around trying to hide their actions. I know that the church is not innocent in this abuse scandal, but I would REALLY like to hear what other catholics think. I’m not familiar with what exactly is going on, thanks for helping!

I don’t think there is a Cliff Notes version to this issue. When you say things like “the [C]hurch [sic] is not innocent in this abuse scandal” I’m not sure what you mean. Do you mean individuals who work for the Church? Do you mean men who have taken Holy Orders? Do you mean the faithful? Do you mean the nation that is the Vatican? I’m not being obtuse, but what your wrote is very unclear to me. And I don’t want to guess at what I agree or disagree with.

I will say, however, that Pope Benedict seems to have done more than any other Pope to address sexual misbehavior by priests directly, openly, and immediately. No other Pope, include John Paul II, has done more.

If you’re really interested in this subject, the best advice that I can give you is to do some research on your own. And don’t rely upon any one source.

I understand completely that this particular source is not “approved” on CAF as it leans to the progressive left, whereas CAF is solidly situated on the more conservative side, but National Catholic Reporter has done exhaustive investigation and reporting of this scandal over the past years, and it continues to do so as cases from Europe and other countries come to light.

Theirs hasn’t been the reporting of the vicious leftist mainstream media bias but it delves much, much deeper into the whole mess from an independent Catholic perspective.

If you’re truly interested in an objective perspective, free of the MSM bias and also free of Church-controlled communication, check it out. I believe you can read most of NCR online without a subscription. ncronline.org/

Orleans, sorry I should have been more clear. I just mean that there are obviously people in the church that are guilty like those specific priests who are guilty and what ever bishops are responsible for moving them around knowing what happened. I’ve just read an article by Sam Harris and saw a couple of segments on cnn and wanted to know some fellow catholics views on the holy father and this scandal.

Thanks for the links Valentine, I’ll be sure to read it.
