Pope Benedict Mass Pics

Does anyone have some good pictures of His Holiness celebrating Holy Mass since his new Master of Ceremonies, Guido Marini, has been appointed? I’m specifically thinking of him celebrating Mass in St. Peter’s with the altar cross restored to its position at the center of the altar, a move that the Holy Father himself advocated in the Spirit of the Liturgy.

I’m just looking for some good pictures of this because I’ve started a Facebook group called Conversi ad Dominum! in the spirit of the reform of the reform. And some pictures with him facing the people while still having Christ Crucified as the focal point of the Mass would be great to have.

A fairy tale.

There is no “reform of the reform”. What is occurring is that Vatican II is now ACTUALLY being implemented instead of people’s interpretations of it.

But there will be no “going back”. The Holy Father himself has made that clear.

Not necessarily. He’s just trying to restore things to be as they should be. Furthermore, where would they put the crucifix at the Altar of the Confession?

He is trying to take the focus of the Mass away from himself and point everyone towards Jesus, who should be at the center of the Holy Sacrifice. Pope John Paul II didn’t mean to make himself the focus of the Mass. It just happened. CNN once said that people would go to Mass to experience Pope John Paul II. A priest friend of mine who had gone to several Papal Masses under JP II said that there was certainly truth to that statement. He said that it was pandemonium during the Holy Father’s last trip to Mexico. Now, things seem a little calmer with Pope Benedict. At the Mass he is trying to lead us to Jesus and he makes the Lord the focal point. I guess you could say that if you were to go to a Papal Mass, you listen to the words of Pope Benedict, but, you experience the majesty of God. That is something that is, unfortunately, missing in liturgy today.

The pictures really do speak a 1,000 words. He’s brought back the more ornate papal chair and is now using a gold Cross as his pastoral staff. Contrary to what some might think, Pope Benedict is launching a reform of the reform and he’s beginning with his own house. We will also be seeing some of the beautiful Vatican vestments when he comes to the United States. He politely turned down the “homemade” vestments in favor of his personal preferences.

By the way, the Vatican website has pictures of the Holy Father celebrating Mass facing the altar, as he did for the Solemnity of the Baptism of the Lord.
 
An altar cross of that magnitude (or any, really) is not required for my focus to be on Jesus at the Masses Pope Benedict celebrates. His faithful witness is enough to focus my attention to the correct place.

I do too. It looks downright silly on EWTN’s daily Mass, but this is a place where form follows function and I respect their intention on those grounds.

An ornate papal chair, a gold cross and “Vatican” vestments mean nothing more than a hill of beans. They means Pope Benedict has better taste than his predecessor and little else.

You know, I agree with you. On the other hand I know people at least locally that would resist the use of an altar cross because it would block the local celebrant from the faithful in the pews – one of the VERY THINGS (and a GOOD thing) the pope is trying to do!
 
Pope Benedict has exquisite tastes, however, acting on them does not make people more focused on the Lord at Mass. Afterall, didn’t people awhile back make a big to-do about him changing Papal tailors as well as his lavish Prada shoes (that I noticed he was wearing in the Easter pics)? Funny that the ostentatious altar cross does not pull my focus back to Jesus, but his shoes will pull my focus away from Jesus.

That said, I respect the heck out of the Pope for his exquisite tastes, almost to the point of jealousy (because I’d like to have my own clothes look half that good).

I think what he’s doing is setting an example for parishes around the world. EWTN has already copied his lead.
 
I don’t watch EWTN with any regularity (or, really, at all), however, I guarantee that their celebrants don’t wear Prada shoes.
 
The topic is pictures of the Pope not what shoes he wears or crosses or vestments, etc. If you don’t have any suggestions for the OP, please take side discussions to new or existing threads or simply refrain from posting. Thank you all.
 
With all due respect, Jean, the question was regarding pictures of the Holy Father since the new MC took over, with regard to changes to the way Papal Masses are celebrated. The altar cross was specifically named. As such, discussions of anything we see in pictures that reflect changes since Carndial Ratzginer became Pope should be fair game, including the altar cross, the Papal Staff, the vestments, and, unfortunately, the Holy Father’s shoes.
 
The Pope doesn’t wear Prada shoes. They’re made by his personal cobbler.

The Pope doesn’t wear Prada shoes, some people have circulated that rumour. One of the cardinals said, he wouldn’t know Gucci from Schmucci, or something to that effect. He just wears vestments and shoes that have been dormant for a while. They aren’t prada.
 
This month’s issue of the Columbian, the Knights of Columbus magazine, has some very beautiful pictures of our Holy Father. The cover is a painting of Pope Benedict and he looks rather fetching. He is also the centerfold, a first for the Columbian. I told my father that this is the first centerfold a men’s magazine should be proud to have!👍

The pictures of the Holy Father celebrating Mass are a true indication that the reform of the reform is well underway. Even before Marini I was replaced, the Holy Father showed a departure from his former MC and started doing things his own way. The pictures on the Vatican website tell the story. After all, the Holy Father said that the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass was going to be at the heart of his reign. May Pope Benedict continue to reign gloriously!😃 👍 😃
