Someone told me that Pope Bendict was wearing an upside down cross and that has to do with the devil.

Can someone explain if this is true and if so, why would he wear an upside down cross.

Thanks for any (name removed by moderator)ut.

When I typed “Pope Benedict wearing an upside down cross” in Yahoo, one of the first hits was the anti-Catholic / anti-Lutheran website jesus dash is dash savior dot com. So, knowing that was not worth a moment on the scroll button, I found this on EWTN.com

I have also here’d this silly claim when Pope John Paul II had an upside down Cross on his chair. The upside down cross symbolizes the Crucifixion of Saint Peter who was crucified upside down for the respect of the death of Jesus Christ. If somebody was to wear a upside down crucifix of Jesus, then that is when somebody can claim it is Satanic, but a plain Cross represents Saint Peter, nothing more!

I have never seen him wear such…rather always a normal latin cross (and I pay attention to his cross --I like the beauty there in)

They made the claim, have them prove he was wearing it upside down.

Very simple.

Sometimes non- and ant-i Catholics get strange jdeas about the Church and the pope. Some think that the Church is Satanic, and the pope works for Satan, therefore he wears an upside down cross. However, he wears the regular rightside up cross. There are “zillions” of phtographs of the pope, and I would challenge anyone who says that the pope wears a satanic cross to see for themselves that they are in error.

The upside down cross has long been a symbol of holiness, related to the crucifixion of St. Peter. It became associated with satanism when the satanists adopted it as a symbol, seemingly mistakenly believing the symbol was not already in use.

you need to start looking at the sources and then when they are anti-Catholic, ignore them and don’t believe everything you here or read or even see.

The inverted cross is not a Satanic symbol, it is a symbol of St. Peter, y’know the foremost of the Apostles and the one the Pope is the successor to.

Thanks for posting the question.👍 I for one, learned something new today (I knew St. Peter was crucified upside down, and why he requested to be so, but not the use of the upside-down cross as a symbol of such).

Not that I’m great company, but at least you know you’re not alone. 😉

Pax Domini sit semper vobiscum.

It’s because it is the petrine cross (Cross of St. Peter). Anti-Catholics have recently used this to think that the upside down cross is the opposite of Christ, but it’s not.

You are so welcome. A Catholic who does not know too much about the faith and is now interested in the last days, anti christ etc. seems to believe much of what is on the web and asked me about it. I am trying to to make sure some anti Catholic views don’t confuse her.

I also learned something new thanks to all the posters.

God Bless

I hate that the Satanists co-opted the inverted cross, as, thanks to movies like Rosemary’s Baby and The Amityville Horror, which I was exposed to before I knew about St. Peter being crucified upside down, everytime I see one I get totally creeped out, even in the above pictures with the Pope and the keys.

In Christ,
Ellen
