After the death of Pope John Paul you’d think the Cardinals would have jumped on the chance to bring the catholic church into the 21st century and elect a pope with at least a few progressive ideas.

Instead they decided that it was more important for the catholic church to remain mired in the dark ages and elected a man who admitted to praying that he wouldn’t be considered for the job. The election of Cardinal Ratzinger to the top job was obviously a clear message to the global community - status quo is the way to go.

Pope Benedict XVI is definitely a social conservative, dare I say even an ultra-conservative. In one speech earlier this week the Pontiff managed to further alienate several huge groups of people and in so doing, managed to anger supporters of those groups. Way to go, Pope!

The first group he insulted were of course every gay man and woman on the planet. He even managed to send the gays a double whammy - not only does the catholic church under Benedict’s rule continue to denigrate homosexuality as ‘objective disorders’ and ‘intrinsic moral evils’, the Pontiff refers to same sex marriage as a “trivialization of the human body”. Whatever that’s supposed to mean but it can’t be good.

So if you happen to be a gay catholic, you are now officially an oxymoron. If you’re a married gay catholic…well, I’d certainly make sure I wasn’t anywhere near lightening during an electrical storm, if you get my drift. . . .

Full rant

Hello Stumbler,
Was is your affiliation anyway? Are you a Catholic? or are you claiming to be a practicing Cathloic and a practicing gay at the same time?
You can’t be both. It’'s like saying, I’m black, and I want to be white. You’re either one or the other. Nothing more and nothing less. So quit walking the fence and decide.
I, for one thing, admire Pope Benedict XVI for being conserative. He’s upholding the Catholic doctrine. He’s simply following ther gospel as represented in Scripture. If you don’t agree with it, then go and join one of the other denominations. That’s what they’re there for. The Catholic church is the only church that follows what God wants, rather than what the people want. And that’s how the church is supposed to be. And why shouldn’t the Pope criticize the gay agenda? What good does the gay agenda do for society anyway? It is a disorder. And don’t forget that whatever person you are or become is all by CHOICE. Never mind being “born that way”. Sheesh, maybe drug addicts, alcoholics, mass murderers, etc., should make the same claim 👍 . No wonder they get their rights.
Hey, I’ve got an idea. Why not legalize polygamy, polyagomy, incest marriage, child pornography, or even crime for that matter, since criminals are always set free more often than innocents. Why not legalize killing people you don’t like? 😃
I wonder why this world is turned upside down!!
Go and get some help, cause you need it.

Hello silentfire, welcome to the forum. I hope you enjoy yourself. Stumbler is a Catholic, he is just giving an article that he has seen online. The link is at the bottom.

With your nasty uncharitable attitude, I hope to God that you aren’t a Catholic.

I personally think the woman who wrote that article is a complete moron. She should be thrown in jail, just because I say so and I should be “accepted at face value”.

Sometimes the truth hurts, and sometimes telling the truth is far more difficult than going along with what’s popular.

Stumbler is a good Catholic, that posted an article:nope: Stumbler does NOT support the authers assertions at all:nope: I do believe an apology is in order because you have misunderstood the intent of the thread starter:nope:

Lisa, if stumbler does not support the article, then why bother putting it on the thread. The author gave the opinion that if the Pope would just allow woman priests, married priests, sanction gay marriage, and allow abortions, this would bring the church “out of the dark ages”, so to speak. If this is what it takes to bring the church up to date by some peoples thinking, I hope to God it never happens. I don’t believe any apology is in order. They were just speaking the truth of our faith.

I am familiar with stumblers posts and stumbler does not suport the authers assertions:nope: The reason the threads NEED to be started is we need not live in a vacuum if we are going to fight spiritual battles we need to know what is going on.The poster jumped to conclusions I have done that before and apologised it is not a big deal to apologise over a misunderstanding.Stumbler has been totally missunderstood:ehh:

As my profile indicates, I’m a Roman Catholic. As orthodox as I can be, in communion with the Pope.

or are you claiming to be a practicing Cathloic and a practicing gay at the same time?
Oh dear. Where did you get that confusion? Heterosexual, plainly.

I agree (with the usual qualifiers regarding intent, knowledge, definitions, etc.)

Perhaps you need to read the article a little slower. As the link indicates, the article is written by a third party. I will post, on occasion, articles that are wildly off base. I think it is important to understand how the wider world sees the Church. I apologize for not making that clear in this thread earlier. However, my posting history is readily available to all. Rather than assume that a poster belongs to a particular camp, may I recommend that you review his posting history first? First impressions are not always valid.

Maybe the poster will read your previous posts;) God Bless,Lisa

The author of the article is crude, rude, disrespectful and markedly ill-informed.

Yo! Davy! Havin’ a little sense of humor deficit today, are we? Even this cynical, sour, humorless, sexagenarian saw that stumbler was giving Big Ben a high five!

Stumbler, you have my apology. My time on the forum is limited, and I don’t always have a chance to check out the person that I am discussing with. Again, I’m sorry, and I will know better next time.
