The pope did not get flustered, he raised an arm and blessed the four people.
“The possessed were then hit by a wild jolt, their whole bodies were hit. They flew three metres backwards… and howled no longer,” he said.
The Vatican’s spokesman Federico Lombardi told AFP that the pope had no idea who the men were or that they were there that day.
🙂 :angel1:

Those comments after the article are so hateful…it’s amazing.

Vatican spokesman Fr Federico Lombardi denied that the Pope had performed an exorcism.
“Even if the facts are true, it’s not correct to talk about an exorcism by the Pope, who was not warned or aware of their presence,” he said.
Fr Amorth made a similar claim about Blessed Pope John Paul II. In 2000, he said that the late pope performed an impromptu exorcism on a a teenage girl at the end of an audience in St Peter’s Square. The Vatican’s press office declined to comment on the claim at the time.

This goes to show one how powerful the Blessing of the Pope can be.

“Even if the facts are true, it’s not correct to talk about an exorcism by the Pope, who was not warned or aware of their presence,” he said.
And when the woman touched the hem of Jesus clothing, He had not planned on healing her either, but it happened.

So not to derail this thread, but in the article it mentioned that Fr. Amorth was going to be writing a third book, does anyone know the title and the particulars? I want to pre-order if I can.

Speaking regarding the hateful commentary which invariably follows any news item involving the Roman Catholic Church, we must be mindful of the fact that these “New Atheists” are militant, and they have strategic tactics, such as ambushing any subject matter relating to the sacred, and spewing venom forth en masse. It has become nearly a universal practice, replete with standard variations of the same profane slanders. Almost every Catholic news story is followed by these blasphemies.

These people are desecrators and vandals who operate in cowardly anonymity, but still, they are not without effect, therefore, we must oppose them with vigor. The palpable rage inherent in most of these diatribes should give us all pause. The hatred seeps through. There is violence in their invectives; it lurks just beneath the surface. Let’s hope it doesn’t manifest itself into acts of extremism.

Very strange! Are these people even atheists? Seems like they are putting a lot of effort into hating the Church than being unbelieving and unconcerned. Moves me to pitiful laughter. The Pope is the head of the church and if they think that the church will go through great lengths to arrange this scene just to show how powerful she is in order that they may see, then they watch too many movies!

Its bias against Christianity. People WANT to argue that prayer has no effect and every religion is equal in order to justify not being religious since they look down on religious people as weak; they see religion as a crutch. They are egotistical, and think it is stronger to thrive without religion than with it so they don’t WANT to believe even if it is true. Believing would make them weak and force them to help other weak people.

This below is the belief system as Nietzsche states it. Nietzsche’s belief system also strongly inspired Hitler; Hitler has died, but the ideas that he was influenced by have not which is why Margaret Sanger is not regarded with contempt. Satan was the first to support it.
.”… up to now, religion has served the weak-minded masses as a kind of crutch supporting wasted lives, as a consolation for being lost, confused and exploited (indeed, Nietzsche believes that Christianity has even encouraged weakness, foolishness, and poverty). Moreover, religion has tempted men to reject those values appropriate to this life in favor of those of the next — has made men, in effect, long for death. It has robbed men of their courage and has taught them to despise this world. Thus … religion reveals itself in Nietzsche as a denial of the best part of us, as a threat to life, to joy, and to the life-serving spirit. … He opposes to religion a humanistic vision of a race of supermen who, by remaining true to the earth, perfect the resources of spirit that ages of evolutionary development have stored up in mankind. In each of us, says Nietzsche, is a god waiting to be born: something new, unique, and creative can be brought forth from us — if only we risk everything during the brief moment we are on earth, if only we have the courage to say that not God’s purposes, but my own joy, however brief, justifies existence itself.” (An Invitation to Philosophy, 209)
Sometimes something shows evidence that Christianity is true, and that people believe in Christianity not just because of any weaknesses but because they have a honest respect for the truth. Thus, Christians are morally superior in this respect to an equivalent person who refuses to believe in something that has been shown to be true so they don’t feel weak.

People HATE seeing their choice of lack of faith as morally inferior (lacking in character) instead of amoral - they don’t want to convert because they despise Christians. The existence of evidence for Christianity shows that committed atheism is stupid and wrong. So they attack the evidence of Christianity out of insecurity and not reason. A cheap insult is the only real attack when you don’t have evidence. Those Christians who are not Christian because of lack of genuine faith or lack of good example - and not because of pride - are not so intimidated by evidence of Christianity.

It would be great to read a full account of this episode and learn more about the two men.

Firstly, the sequence of events as briefly outlined in this newspaper report is not clear to me. I take it Fr Amorth provides more information in his book.

My questions are as follows:

Were these men possessed before they were brought to St Peter’s Square or did the possession occur only when they were waiting for the Pope?

What was Fr Amorth’s dealings with these men before the event in St Peter’s Square and did he bring them to the square with the intention of removing a demonic possession?

Has Fr Amorth provided more information on these men, before and after the incident in St Peter’s Square?

Is there other eye witness testimony of the possession and the removal of the demonic possession?

Will the two men speak about their experience?

Am I just a doubting Thomas…:o

This atheism, this religious belief in NO God, can never exist as an aloof, unconcerned stance, because the state of NO God cannot be proven. No, a true atheist must vehemently attack any evidence to the contrary, or their belief in NO God begins to crumble, and with it their self-authority for living the way they wish.

Atheism based on, say, the horror of every war and torture camp in history cannot hold a candle to God’s revelation in the grace of one Fatima, or his mercy in expelling one demon. It’s a potentially fatal attack on their belief. Expect them to respond with every bit of vulgarity they can muster. Their way of life depends on it.

@ Timotheos and Lovepatience.

Right!👍

@ Doubting Thomas
We’d also like to know the details, but more likely for different reasons…🙂
