Could you please provide us with some historical evidence?

And just a warning, anything written after the reformation doesn’t count 😃
Why after the reformation? There have been many historical findings (artifacts) since that period. Several years ago they found archeological proof of the house of David. Before that discovery there was no extra-biblical support for the house of David.

God Bless,
Robert

Robert902;2509220:
because you read the word “brothers”? ever tought that words back then did not have same meaning?
John 19:26-27
When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, “Woman, behold thy son!” Then saith he to the disciple, “Behold thy mother!” And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.

ok to people like you, John was Jesus’ brother? if not, then why let him take care of Mary instead of her “true” sons?If Jesus had brothers and sisters, there would be no need to put his mother under the care of John…it would probably be an insult to his brothers and sisters.
Acts 7:2 Stephen refers to “our father Abraham,” and in Romans 9:10 Paul speaks of “our father Isaac.” What’s your opinion?
I think you are missing the point. Abraham is our collective father, but a priest is not, and should not be called father.

Robert, in #502 of this thread you made the following statement:

““Protestant churches acknowledge the existence of the brothers of Jesus, not only because of Biblical references, but also because of historical ones. And this is why my interpretation is not private. And it’s not my interpretaion up against yours, it’s your interpretation up against everyone else. I know of no other denomination that teaches that Mary died a virgin.””

We asked you for these “historical” references. Is this going to be hard for you to do? If so, just continue to ignore the request, and we’ll get the hint.

As for the Biblical references for your claim that Jesus had siblings, those are strictly fundamentalist interpretations. They don’t hold water. But then, neither do a whole lot of other fundamentalist interpretations of Scripture. Still, if you insist on holding erroneous interpretations of Scripture, that is your right, and good luck to you.

“Call no man father.”

Abraham is a man.

And who is missing the point?

The fundamentalist anti-Catholic grasps at Biblical straws in order to attack Catholicism. Is it your purpose here to attack Catholicism by using specious misinterpretations of Scripture? If so, you could at least come up with something original. You read like a Jack Chick tract.

Mighty fine, brother Rob’t. But we weren’t talking about David, we were talking about brothers (siblings) of Jesus, which reflects upon the perpetual virginity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Who is “they?”

The Bible say’s that Mary is “blessed among women.” And indeed she was. What I am “attacking” as you have put it, is a false teaching. And Mary just happens to be the center of this false teaching. Jesus had 2 brothers, consequently Mary was not a virgin when she died.
You ask why does it matter to me? It should matter to every Christian.

God Bless,
Robert
Why should it matter to you?

You’re not Catholic. You could go your way and ignore the Mother of God and be a perfectly happy fundamentalist. Why are you here tossing your fundamentalist cliche gems into the forum?

Do you think we’ve never heard of these tired bromides?

In all your years of studying Catholicism, these are the best arguments you could come up with?

This is why I like to use the entire bible, not just one verse.

Two of those called “brothers” of Jesus, James and Joseph, are identified as sons of another Mary, the wife of Clopas. Compare these three verses.

Matthew 13:55. Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother called Mary, and his brethren James, and Joseph, and Simon, and Jude:

John 19:25. Now there stood by the cross of Jesus, his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalen.

Matthew 27:56. Among whom was Mary Magdalen and Mary the mother of James and Joseph and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.

I’ll try and be nice. It’s is obvious that there are some Protestants on this site not to better understand Catholicism but to bash it. This couple of weeks since the Popes letters came out, people have said “Catholics aren’t christians” or “I worship Jesus, not to saints.” They’ve have taken the Popes words out of context and some have not even read his letters. This might be a little harsh but you Protestants need to get over it. We understand you, now we are asking that you try and understand us a bit better. We’re not asking you to come over to the darkside but enough of this “Call no man father” or “Mary had other children.” If you can find evidence before 1500 on this subject of Mary, we’d like to hear it. You see, the teaching of the Catholic Church goes back 2000 years. Just because you don’t believe it, won’t change it. So just ignore the writtings of the Church Fathers and the writtings of the saints. But looking at history, if some do read these writtings, someone will take their words out of context just like they did to our Pope.

Here is a link to an article that discusses recent comments about Protestants by the Pope.

Is the Pope saying that Protestants can’t be Christians and go to Heaven or is he reaffirming that non Catholics can be Christians and go to Heaven, but they don’t practice it as it was intended?
I would have to say that I don’t care what he is saying. Jesus is my salvation, not the pope and not the CC.

I suspect Branden actually does care what the Pope says. The fact that he is hanging out on a Catholic forum and commenting on Papal sayings is evidence enough of that.

Now, I’d like to focus in on the second of the two sentences he wrote, quoted above. “Jesus is my salvation, not the pope and not the CC.”

I’m just curious, Branden. What kind of Catholic formation did you receive while you were growing up “Catholic”?

I guess we’re not going to hear back from Robert on these historical references to the brothers (siblings) of Jesus.

Maybe he’s in the library trying to find them.

Neither is worship on any other day , but we meet to worship and for celebration of Mass mon to fri too 🙂

Many other things are not in the bible. What makes you think that the bible is all there is? It is only one source of information among others.

W gave you the bible. How come you do not believe what we say but you believe what we wrote! 😛

  1. Transubstantiation. The elements become the actual body and blood of Jesus. If this were true the elements would taste like blood and human flesh, but at least to me they don’t.
I’m sorry, but this is one of the weakest arguments I have heard against the Transubstantiation in a while. In addition to the fact that this argument parallels the atheist’s claim of “I cannot see God, ergo God does not exist”, it is very childish in its reasoning. Yes Robert, the Transubstantiation does take a leap of faith (that is, if Jesus’ words at the Last Supper, in John 6, and Luke 24 weren’t enough for you), but faith is one of the cornerstones of Christianity. With your “argument”, you could refute everything from basic chemical reactions and the laws of physics to the Incarnation and the Crucifixion (I didn’t see it, so it didn’t happen?)…please reconsider your statement.

I’m sorry if I came off a bit rude, but I can’t just sit here while someone carelessly throws aside Christ’s most precious gift to His Church…

So you have never tasted blood? Then I must praise Almighty God for His most gracious gift to this, His most unworthy and pitiful of servants

Hi

What is this Transubstantiation? It seems something like being blood-thirsty or something smelling cannibalism, I don’t know it exactly. Is it superstition? or is it from OTBible? Somebody please explain.

Thanks

**Since Jesus left no written Word of GodAllahYHWH revealed on him, or authenticated by him when he last departed from Galilee; hence my Catholic friends believe many creeds **crea****ted by the Catholic Clergy not originated by Jesus himself in person.

Good morning, paarsurrey. Read the Gospel of John, chapter 6. There are other Biblical references as well, but you should probably start there.

Transubstantiation is a term that represents the changing of the bread and wine into the body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus during the Mass.

Hi

Thanks for explaining. I have read it from John,

Thanks

I often quote from the writings of the PromisedMessiah, to make it convenient for my Catholic friends to convert me to your cherished faith, if you refute his arguments and your arguments exceed that of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad’s arguments; I being steadfast on my faith, keep a window or a door open to welcome the truth from anywhere it comes to me. The Catholics are in this way in direct contest with Mirza Ghulam Ahmad.

Paarsurrey, you were refuted on another thread where you were trying to push your muslim faith…now you have moved to a new thread and continue to do the same.

I am reporting you.

Jesus told us that He had lots He wanted to tell us but it would be too much for His followers then but He would send the Advocate who would teach us further.

Now the Advocate did not send a letter or email 😛
He communicated in the way that He does to those He choses, most notably through Visionaries and mystical encounters with the authority Christ had instituted when He was still on earth. 🙂

So what if he did? We’re all here to learn, so tell him why he’s wrong or why Catholicism is correct. Don’t hound him because he’s not wishy-washy. He’s been very pleasant on the threads and I find your harassment very childish.
