in my outlook yes. we should have elected a black, or a pope from south america. that would show the world we truly are the universal church. We seem to always pick a pope from a western country. that is my thoughts, i know the holy spirit plays a roll i picking the pope, but a lot of politics are involved too.

i want all of you to understand, that i believe in jesus and our church. but i will not brush over, or not talk about our shortcomings and faults.
You may believe in Jesus, as well as you are able to do so with your limited understanding and education. However, you are not Catholic, and you don’t seem to understand what the Catholic Church teaches. It might be more useful to start with your own shortcomings and faults, before you move on to correct the pope. 👍

Hi
I think it is a good idea for future.
Thanks

as a matter of fact, they were stupid compared to him. What did trhey teach him? If anything he taught them.
lavazza, Mary and Joseph were not “stupid” compared to Jesus. The are human, and did not have His omniscience, or omnipotence, so they could not understand everything He said and did, perhaps. However, unlike yourself, they recognized that He was the Son of theMost High, and were honored to be part of His glorious mission on earth. Mary and Joseph were faithful people who dedicated their whole lives to bringing up Our Lord and meeting His earthly needs.
Where in canon law does it say, i must put mary second under jesus in praying?
No where. Agreement with the belief in the communion of saints and Marian docrines is required, one may persist in ignorance and inhibit the power of one’s prayers by refusing to make use of their intercession.
Without St Paul, christianity as we know it, would never be. if he thought it was important to pray to her, i am sure in all his writings, he would have said so. He did more for our church than mary ever did.
Each one has their own gift, surely. Paul would not be able to give birth to the Son of God, so fortunately he was able to effect his calling in other ways. One way was to remind us that Jesus came to fulfill the law, and that obedience to the commandments of God is expected of Christians, including the command to honor your father and mother. Jesus honored His, as He was the perfect fulfillment of the law, as Paul writes.

When you stand before Jesus on the day of judgement, and His mother is there at His side, you can explain to him why it was important for you to scorn her role in His holy mission to mankind.

paarsurrey,

i have no idea. some pope thought it was a good idea to make mary a VIP in our church. look at the history of our founding fathers, not one of them made any claim about mary. They are the ones that set the laws from the apostles.
Never mind paarsurrey, he is not even a Christian, and is preaching some sort of strange Islamic hybrid faith.

The Pope did not make Mary a VIP, Jesus did. Look in Luke to see the words that she ane Elizabeth exchanged. God has blessed her, all generations shall call her blessed, she is the Mother of the Lord.

When was the last time you called Mary blessed? Are you speaking of the founding fathers of America? If not, then who?
The Catholic Church was not founded by men, but by Jesus.
Mary deserves our respect as jesus mother, that is all. Not on equall par as paul or the other apostles. That is my view, She did not come to save us, jesus and the other apostles did. It is saying i must put c.s. lewis’s mother on a footing almost like lewis. does not cut it. i will give her the respect of being his mother, but not idolizing her.
I am glad to hear that you do not want to idolize anyone, because even though you are not Catholic, it is not recommended that you violate the first commandment.

For your information, Jesus is the only name by which men may be saved, so none of the other Apostles names will work to get you to heaven either.

I am very much a catholic. have had 16 years of catholic education. every person’s relationship with god and the church is unique.just like every person’s marriage is diffrent. here is no right or wrong way, in worshiping god or his church. That is why we have a liberal and conserative wing of our church.

just curious?

where does it say in the gospels or pauls writings to pray to mary? That is a man made suggestion, by some pope, i would guess. Jesus taught us how to pray, The our father, where did he say the hail mary?

When was the last time you called Mary blessed? Are you speaking of the founding fathers of America? If not, then who?
The Catholic Church was not founded by men, but by Jesus.
Actually, I thought Jesus founded the one faith that was the pillar and ground of truth. Then the RCC went into schism from that (after some innvovative doctrines) and then from the RCC schism came Protestant schisms. As Bishop Kallistos Ware notes a 19th Century Russian Theologians said “The Pope was the first Protestant” and that RCC/Protestant were just two sides of the same coin. Therefore the church founded by Jesus Christ still exists in its fullness and that is the Eastern Orthodox faith. Come home brother!

I guess it is all perspective.

PS I know I am being a little provocative 😃 but that does appear to be the EO perspective as I have read it.

BUT…both the RCC & EO revere the Mother of God (though they disagree about certain doctrines) since this is clearly taught in scripture and tradition.

Don’t try to derail the thread. This is anti-Catholic garbage you’re spouting which has been explained over and over and has absolutely nothing to do with the topic being discussed here.

you are missin the point, jesus was GOD. he is all powerful. he does not need a human to teach him or take care of him. He made us all. lol, what can he learn from us? we must learn from him.
No, lavazza, I think it is you that is missing the point. The reason I think you are not Catholic or not educated is because you seem to deny even the most basic elements of the Catholic faith. One of those elements is the incarnation.

Phil 2:5-8

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

Jesus grew in the womb of a human, and was born like every other human is born of woman. His mother breast fed Him, changed his diapers, made his clothes, fixed His meals,a nd cleaned his skinned knees. He CHOSE to do this, and HE CHOSE Mary and Joseph as the ones to whom He would submit Himself.

Luke 2:49-52

49 And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” 50 But they did not understand the statement which He spoke to them.

51 Jesus Advances in Wisdom and Favor Then He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them, but His mother kept all these things in her heart. 52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.

Joseph and Mary helped Jesus to grow in wisdom and stature, in favor with God and men.

No you are not rev, just stating your feelings. nothing wrong with that. it is when you say anything against certain idea’s of my church, you are called a rebel rouser, trying to sow discontent etc. I believe the eastern church’s and the protestants have the holy spirit in them too.

no one has to pray to mary to get to heaven. that is some man made idea, from some pope. Paul told us how to get to heaven. Faith.i look at it this way,
If it is a “man made idea” then it is probably yours. I can assure you that the Catholic church does not teach that one has to pray to Mary to get to heaven. I can equally assure you that no Pope has said this. On the other hand, many of the Popes have affirmed the dignity and value of Mary in the the Salvation mystery.

I hate to break this to you, lavazza, but Paul did not tell us “how to get to heaven”… Jesus taught that. Paul taught what Jesus showed him.
We are all god children, What do you want from your kids? perfection or trust and believe? i suggest trust and faith. That is what god is looking for. Not following all these man made laws. that where never put in the bible. we are getting like the pharisee’s, worrying about following all these laws.
Glad you are not teaching the catechism classes!

i believe jesus is god. if you really get down to it, what more is there to say? because i do not believe in little every thing our church stands for, it does not make me a non catholic. sorry. As paul said, faith is the key. As i have said before, what is god looking for in his children? perfection or trust and love? i suggest trust and love. he is not into “do do this” do not that ****. He wants trust love and faith.

You do realize that this verse refers to perfect love towards not just your friends and family but enemies too?
Yes! And, because we are aware of how imperfect our love is, it is also one of the main supports for purgatory. 👍

i got a question? why is it that for every 10 hail mary’s in the rosary, we have only one our father? i think i should be the other way around, myself, just a thought.

Anyway, would you care to answer this question? I’m really interested in an answer from a member of the “one true Church” since we non-Catholics do not possess the full truth. You will kneel before our Lord one day and give an account. So I’m just curious how you’ll answer.

Mat 7:21
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Mat 7:22
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
Both of these passages are about the lost, and the persons Jesus is talking about are not going to heaven. So, that makes your previous question irrelevant.
this is suppose to be a give and take forum too?
No. This forum is for people who have questions about the Catholic faith, or want to have authentic discussion about Catholic doctrine. We are not very good at putting up with anti-catholic drivel around here.
i do not believe we are the one true church. i am catholic, but there are many good people and good ministers and pastors out there, from many other denominations.
There are so many errors and tall tales in your posts, it is not clear how much of what you have said is true. However, there is sufficient information in your posts to make it clear that you are not Catholic.

i am saying jesus does not care what church you belong too.
As long as you believe in him, have faith and trust in his word, it does not matter.
If that is the case, why are you on the forum?
i am a catholic.I was baptized a catholic, That does not mean, i must believe every word or action our chuch stands for.
Sorry, lavazza. You can’t have it both ways. Either you believe what the Church teaches, or you don’t. Your statement that you do not makes you a Protestant. You may have been baptized CAtholic, but at some point, you abandoned the faith that was handed on to us by the Apostles.
Should i be happy with all the people we killed in gods name?
I should hope not!
god has given me free wiil you use. many things our church has done in the past and present are not very christian like. becauce i question these things, That makesme a bad catholic? i think not.
No, it is not your questioning that is bad. I never said you were “bad”. I said you are Protestant. Maybe you are a very good Protestant, I don’ t know. It seems to me that you have been very rude here about Catholic beliefs, and I don’t consider your attitude toward Jesus’ mother very Christlike (I believe he honored His mother).

You have not distinguished between what the Church teaches, and the sinful behavior of some Catholics. Are you going to judge the truth of Jesus words by the actions of Judas?
i believe in many things our church stands for, but at the same time i disagree with somethings too. I do not like saying we are the only true church. I have problems with making mary a main pillar of our church, I also resent the fact of all the money our church has, yet i do not see it helping the poor. I believe in our pope, and sacrements etc.
The Church is the body of christ. Christ only has one body. He did not build “churches”, but a Church. He did not create “bodies” but One Body.

Eph 4:4-6
4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

Where does it say anywhere that “Mary is a main pillar of our Church”??? If you are resentful that someone else has money, then you need repentance and confession. Resentment toward others goods is a mortal sin. You have already said that you don’t support the pope.

roger,

they are nuts, i am the first to question our church, but to say we are started by the devil is crazy. most people today will look at you like you are nuts, if you say you believe in satan. theydo not realize spirtial warfare is all around, This spiritual war is the most important one we have ever fought. never mind about ww2 etc. they are babies play compared to this, just pray for that place, the god lord will take take of them, as he see’s fit.
Yeah, I know. After 25years of being away from the church and coming back on fire for Christ, I never knew that people dislike Catholics that much. It hurts when you have other people say your not a christian, the pope is wrong on what he said, but their guilty of what they accuse him of. And it was nothing new on what the pope said. I heard the other day “The people in the church aren’t perfect but his church is.”

in my outlook yes. we should have elected a black, or a pope from south america. that would show the world we truly are the universal church. We seem to always pick a pope from a western country. that is my thoughts, i know the holy spirit plays a roll i picking the pope, but a lot of politics are involved too.
Correct me if I’m wrong but the Cardinals elect the pope and the Holy Spirt guides them. I know the liberals wanted someone else and not B16. The Libs want the church to change with the times.

Rom 14:10
But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.

Rom 14:11
For it is written, [As] I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.

Rom 14:12
So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.
While I cannot judge whether or not you are going to Heaven. Surely, I can judge what is right from what is wrong. Each unique situation has a correct path to take in response. This is the value of discernment.

Many would bring us down the path of relativism, as if there is no truth.
