“How can we fail to hear the desperate cry of so many brothers and sisters who prefer to face a stormy sea rather than die slowly in Libyan detention camps, places of torture, and ignoble slavery?” stressed the pope. “How can we remain indifferent to the abuses and violence of which they are innocent victims, leaving them at the mercy of unscrupulous traffickers? How can we ‘go further,’ like the priest and the Levite of the parable of the Good Samaritan, making ourselves responsible for their death?”

“Our ignorance is a sin,” he said.

And still we have people worried about “our culture” and “way of life”.

Shameful.

I will try to watch the movies in the next few weeks, it appears there are 2 “migrant” movies dealing with those who come from North Africa. They are both foreign movies but I’ll bet they are subtitled.

Mediterannea (not Mediterraneo which is a World War II movie). This one looks more on the mark per the current crisis.

They are just movies but perhaps, they might be informative as well.

Some slight disturbances even in Dublin in the past few days, this then, makes many turn against migrants or refugees. One has to check the news thoroughly but there are a few reports. It really surprised me.

Only the body of our Lord and Savior belongs on the cross. This is sacrilegious.

That may be because it isn’t really blasphemous. Christ isn’t the only figure allowed on a cross. There are monuments, for example, that show the thieves of Calvary on crosses. These statues depict a common and widespread means of torture and execution in the Roman Empire. Despite having people other than Christ on them, they are certainly not blasphemous. The intent of the crosses for refugees isn’t blasphemous, either.
In the Christian tradition, noted the pope, “the cross is a symbol of suffering and sacrifice, but also of redemption and salvation.”

The cross, he said, is to be a reminder to keep our eyes and hearts open: “to remind everyone of the indispensable commitment to save every human life, a moral duty that unites believers and non-believers.”

Sorry, there is a difference between depicting the thieves who were actually crucified on crosses and a life jacket. Jesus is the only person who died on the cross for our redemption. To place anyone or anything in His place, in a Catholic Church is blasphemous.

You know, what this reminds me of and it might be a different situation but I had a little Stations of the Cross book put out by I believe the Franciscans, but I’m not positive but for example, they’d have “Jesus falls a 2nd time” and the accompanying picture showed like someone on skid row who was having a tough time. In that instance, I certainly could relate. We all do fall, that’s for certain.

Now, is placing someone or something on a cross a bit different? In that, yes, I do think it is. We wouldn’t say put Martin Luther King II or someone like that on a cross.
