First, try to keep in perspective some of the confusing things the Holy Father says and go immediately to your catechisms and review. We have multiple catechisms at our disposal. Chief among them are these.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church.

The Catechism of the Council of Trent for Parish Priests.

Also, the Baltimore Catechism

His third point is to be especially noted.
Third, I think there is no person on Earth more beset by the Enemy of the Soul and the Enemy’s many earthly agents than the Vicar of Christ. Think about the timing of this… HOLY THURSDAY? Old Scratch and his bootlicking Communist journalist pawn chose well. Look at the confusion they caused. Hence, as a Catholic, understand that the Devil and Hell really exist, and that people really can go to Hell – which is eternal and not nothingness – we must – again, as believing Catholics – get down on our knees and pray for the Pope, especially with the time honored Pro Pontifice prayer.

The Vatican on Thursday rebuked Eugenio Scalfari, 93, a well-known Italian journalist who is the founder of Italy’s La Repubblica newspaper.

Scalfari is an atheist. He is also noted for not taking notes and writing what he thinks a person says rather than quote them for what they really said. Scalfari has already apologized for previous interviews which Pope Francis gave Scalfari and Scalfari made up his own narritive.

Well, Scalfari did it again. To which I say, C’mon, Stop giving Scalfari air time.

Believe some of what you see, and none of what you hear.

RE note taking… You don’t have to take notes to remember what was said. How do you think oral tradition got passed on?

this “story” is gaining traction in the atheistic secular media

i wish Pope Francis would stay away from sclafari…

The Apostles wished that Jesus would not have eaten with sinners and tax collectors

I am pretty sure it is not a good idea to visit with a guy who goes out and spreads scandal to the faithful and not so faithful.
I know that I have no idea what goes on in the head or heart of the current pope, but, I am pretty sure he will believe in hell in the future. I for sure believe in it and fear the heck out of it.

I would add also that Scareawhats his name interviews people just like the FBI. Lord help us all.

I’m fairly confident Pope Francis is trying to save his soul. You know… leaving the 99 to go after the 1.

I wish God’s people would be slow to judgement and allow time for God will to be done.

I hope your confidence is well placed. I am afraid Scaraface is having more influence on the pope and the catholic people, that the pope is having on him. History has revealed that there have been bad popes in the past, common sense seems to reveal something about this one.

Has nobody considered this interview might have been intended as an object lesson for Easter? Francis is now being mocked and abused by many, even Christians, and no two testimonies agree on what he really said.

Atheists didn’t pass on our oral or written Tradition.

I think it is true that there have been popes in the past who have made some questionable personal decisions.

I believe the teaching of the church is that while these men were flawed individuals, they remained true Vicars of Christ. I believe the teaching is also that God’s Church will never be destroyed. Forgive if I am incorrect. I am still studying and learning about these things.

In light of this, it seems wise to give the pope the benefit of the doubt. In this case, to believe that his intentions are to save this man’s soul. I think it is also wise to believe that God will protect the pope from making any serious errors (like promulgating heresy!!!). In this case, I think it is the role of the church to pray for the pope rather than to openly speculate about whether or not he is losing his faith (because this only adds to any confusion that already persists).

Before everyone gets all screwed up on this, they should read this article AND open up and read all internal links in this article.

You miss my point.

Oral tradition is just that, it’s oral. There were no written notes, etc.

And, those “valid sources” are only “valid” based, for much of their history, on oral tradition, correct?

All I am saying is that information has been passed on without notes for a long, long time. Even if this guy had taken “notes,” it may or may not have mattered because of interest/bias?

Or, what if they really did elect an idiot who doesn’t recognize the company he is in, and how they might manipulate his statements? You have to pick your words carefully depending on the audience that is around you.

Excerpts from Fr Z’s article:
Today is Holy Thursday, which I had hoped might be a little quiet, giving me some time in silence. It was not to be.

First, try to keep in perspective some of the confusing things the Holy Father says

Fourth, if news from Rome upsets you all the time, stop reading news from Rome all the time.
Well, physician heal thyself.
The world will not stop turning if Fr Z shuts off his computer and minds what on his own plate.

Instant electronic communication is both a blessing and a curse. In this case, it is serving to multiply and perpetuate the confusion, unfortunately at the hands of a priest.
It is ok to let the ruminations of an atheist author fall to the floor without comment and die a quiet death.
