Abortion is a clear indication of a society’s lost understanding of our proper relationship with God.
Too many people have lost the understanding that life on Earth is temporary and life in Eternity is indeed eternal.

Look at what’s on the horizon for places with abortion…it isn’t good. Even the pro-aborts and the secularists will start to sheepishly admit their failings, double down with more falsehoods, or just laugh it off and hope they are dead by the time stuff hits the fan.

Spain is traditionally one of the most Catholic countries out there. Even Franco, for all his excesses, was actually very strong on Catholic values and protected and upheld the Church. This would certainly explain the Pope’s dismay. (Someone should tell him about how their current King supports gay marriage, too.
)

It is always stunning to contemplate the slaughter of the innocent unborn. Furthermore, it is stunning to consider the actual state of the world and Christianity:
– Abortion is high across the west and across the world.
– Faith is down to frighteningly low numbers across the west, with Mass attendance in the single digits in most European nations and most other nations are plummeting as well.
– Couples, who claim to be Christians, who live together is likely higher than ever.
– The assault on marriage is at a fevered pitch.
– Divorce…
– Fornication
– Immoralities of all manners and types…
The list can go on, and YES it is true that none of those sins are new to the world, for sin has been with us since the Garden. Yet, I cannot think of a time in recent eras that such a large swatch of the world was so openly and blatantly (and almost pridefully) swimming in sin.
I wonder when we can properly use the word: APOSTASY?

I think that our Holy Father, coming from Argentina, where the teachings of the Church are hardly questioned, is a bit sheltered. This report confirms that for me. Hopefully, as his eyes are opened to the crises that exist in the Western world with regard to cohabitation, divorce, contraception, abortion, etc., he will start to focus a bit more on those issues. His visit to the U.S. for the World Meeting of Families can not come soon enough!

The abortion rate in the US is about 50% higher than in Spain, if the number of abortions is considered per capita. Of course, the US has a much larger population, so the absolute number of abortions is a full magnitude greater than in Spain.
Spain, on the other hand, has historically been a Catholic country. Granted, during the past couple decades, the population has become largely nominal in their faith. In reading the news, I am occasionally astonished at how far Spanish attitudes (and behavior) have drifted from the Church. The pope, as others suggested, may simply be expressing similar astonishment.
I think you are wrong. Argentina has experienced quite a bit of domestic pressure to liberalize its abortion laws. And the neighboring country of Uruguay, only 30 miles from Buenos Aires, legalized abortion in 2011. I think Pope Francis is well aware of the cultural changes, and cultural battles, which are occurring.

Of course the Holy Father is “stunned.” I am surprised the bishops even called it to his attention. It was just last year that his Holiness was quoted as saying, The Church is to obsessed with abortion, “homosexuality”, and birth control. .
And before anyone tells me that The Holy Father was taken out of context, that is not the point. That appears to be the case with every single statement coming from The Holy Father, including today’s news. I have no doubt the media distorts whatever it wants to fit its narrative. Again this is not the point. Are we to believe the gullibility of Pope Francis? His brain trust? Come on mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!! These are some of the most educated men on the face of the earth. And this is what we get week in and week out? Is Bravo network running the show in Rome?
I know it’s Ash Wednesday and I’m going to have to go to confession, but this is unbelievable.
