This is fantastic news:

I pray that our new Holy Father continues the good work laid down by his predecessor in further warming the ties between the Eastern and Western churches.

I also pray that we see him celebrate a Divine Liturgy sometime in the near future. 😃
From your lips to God’s ears.

AXIOS!

Greetings,

I know that some were concerned (not anyone on this thread but what I’ve read is some blogs) with the Gospel only being sung in Greek, but as Jimmy Akin pointed out in his blog that, The Gospel will be proclaimed in Greek, as at the highest solemnities, to show that the universal Church is made up of the great traditions of the East and the West.

I’m no liturgical expert, but I’m assuming that during a solemnity, such as the case yesterday being the Solemnity of St. Joseph, it is proper or even customary, to sing the Gospel in Greek as per the Roman rite. This of course makes sense to me since the language of the Gospels is Greek.

If my assumtion is wrong please let me know šŸ™‚

It is a pretty common feature of the Papal Liturgy to have both Latin and Byzantine Subdeacons and Deacons.

You can see them present at the High Altar during a Papal Mass.

Our Holy Father is going to unite the church with several languages. šŸ™‚

Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk said Pope Francis’ simplicity and commitment to a new form of evangelization was exemplified when he came out onto the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica for the first time March 13 and bowed as he asked people to pray for him and ask God to bless him.
ā€œHe spontaneously rejected the kingship of the papacy,ā€ the archbishop said.
ā€œThis is the way of the very ancient church,ā€ Archbishop Shevchuk said, and it is something still seen today in the Byzantine ordinations of priests and bishops. The candidate is first presented to the people who must proclaim him ā€œaxiosā€ or ā€œworthy.ā€
The new pope knows the Byzantine liturgy and the Ukrainian Catholic Church from his youth, the archbishop said. As a student at a Salesian school in Buenos Aires, he would wake up early each morning and go to Divine Liturgy with Ukrainian Father Stepan Chmil, who is now deceased.
As archbishop of Buenos Aires, Cardinal Bergoglio also served as the ordinary for Eastern Catholics who did not have their own bishops in Argentina. As ordinary, he was responsible for ensuring Eastern Catholics had their own priests and for guaranteeing their pastoral care.
Archbishop Shevchuk said Pope Francis was present several times when he presided over a Byzantine Divine Liturgy during meetings of the Argentine bishops’ conference, to which they both belonged.

Hmmm … that’s a, well, interesting thing to be concerned about.

WOOOWWWWWW!!! That’s great!!! Actually, I am one of those also hoping that, one day, ( hoping in my lifetime 😃 ), that we WesternCatholics + EasternCatholics + Orthodoxes will have worship with mass schedules such as the following… What a wonderful feeling to be complete in experiencing both Rites… a FULL exposition of
Jesus Christ in different flavors !!

Archdiocesan Shrine of the Good Shepherd ( Quezon City / Tampines )
mass schedule:

08:00-09:00 English Latin Rite
09:30-10:30 English Byzantine Rite
11:00-12:00 English Greek-Ukrainian Rite
13:00-14:00 Chinese Maronite Rite
14:30-15:30 … etc …

Hello Eugene… Are you from Singapore ? If you are, may I know where you worship ( with Byzantine Catholic Rite ) ? I really want to get the feel of worshipping God through Eastern Rite .😃

I am not aware of a Catholic Byzantine Rite Liturgy in Singapore, but the Holy Resurrection Orthodox Cathedral of the Metropolitanate of Singapore and South Asia (under the Ecumenical Patriarch) currently operates out of the Catholic Archdiocesan Education Centre. If you introduce yourself nicely, they may permit you to attend Liturgy, but not to receive communion. šŸ™‚

By the way… Just one more question… Is there any Eastern Catholic community in Singapore ? Thanks again šŸ™‚

Apparently, there is a small community of the UGCC, but I don’t have any more information in that regard. If there were any such information, I would have pursued it and shared it with you, for I too have an interest in the Eastern rites. šŸ™‚

I’m from New York, and I’m afraid I’ve never been to Singapore. The way we worship is in the Eastern Rite and Liturgy with similar differences as you’d find between the different Orthodox Churches. The difference is that we’re in communion with the seat of Peter and Paul. I pray that one day the Church will once again breathe with both lungs, but it’s not that way just yet. I wish you God’s blessing in your search!

It’s nice to know that there are persons who share my interests as well šŸ™‚ Thanks.

I have a GREAT feeling that we are at GOOD TIMES… With Bartholomew I and Pope Francis at the helm, the ecumenism may become complete soon šŸ™‚ I hope and pray šŸ™‚

In the meantime, I’ll give it my best to find a way to make my worshipping God breathe two (2) lungs. 😃

Thanks
