😁 Some people may not realise that The Onion is a spoof/joke website. It’s a joke, folks!

It looks like the pontiff snagged a deal on a Byzantine-style chalice… Sweet…

LOL, that reminded me of Fr. Guido Sarducci. I can just see him taking viewers on a tour of Vatican Chinatown and running into the Pope.

I love Chinatown.
He should try the Thai rolled ice cream.

Followup:

Four Cardinals have written publicly to the Pontiff asking him to clarify if the chalice is authentic or a reproduction, and if it’s actually going to be used for a real Mass.

He won’t answer their letter.

O gosh. Haven’t thought about Sarducci in years. Hey, you ain’t that old of a Bear.

Next, you’ll be resurrecting the “Find the Pope in the pizza contest”. Didn’t Sarducci into duce that? Or am I conflating that with another skit.

1979…so it’'s almost 40 YEARS OLD. Holy smokes. Pope JPII was new then, and I actually remember his albums. The Polish-Americans I knew were so thrilled to have a Polish pope, they bought everything associated with him.

We know it’s true because it’s from The Onion, a news website known for being rigidly sober and never joking 😀

I suspect the Chinatown within the Vatican City/State is quite small…

There was a cameo by him in the live action Casper movie too. I was like 10 so I didn’t get it, but my mom laughed and laughed.

Weird that this comes up now. I haven’t thought of that movie in years but yesterday at work one of the gals mentioned it. Spooky!

It really is remarkable how inexpensive some retailers are with regard to Church goods adjacent to the Vatican.
