ROME - Often faulted by critics as not being sufficiently clear when it comes to the Church’s negative judgment on abortion, Pope Francis on Sunday couldn’t have been more firm in calling it a “very grave sin” and a “horrendous crime.”
“I was thinking on the attitude of sending the kids back before they’re born, this horrendous crime, they send them back because it’s better like that, because it’s more comfortable, it’s a great responsibility- a very grave sin,” Francis said.
The comments came in an interview with the Italian Catholic media outlets TV2000 and Blu Radio, released on Sunday after the closing of the Jubilee Year of Mercy.

I do not know what critics were being referenced, but whoever they are, they aren’t very honest, or very ignorant. Pope Francis has never minced words on abortion.
This is great news imo. Have you ever noticed that the secular/ liberal crowd seems to never have a negative thing to say about the Pope…well, that tells me, some of his and the CCs beliefs have not been clear to many folks out there. I cannot count the number of quotes from him Ive seen on FB and the liberal crowd misinterprets the message to favor their agenda which is anti-christian.

A good example was his visit to the US, I never saw one media reporter or protester saying anything negative about him or the CC, and this is the leader of the catholic church in a place like America? LOL Cmon, something wrong about that.

If they thought for a second he was against abortion or SSM, they would have voiced their opinions and try to throw him under the bus, we know the media and liberals do this all the time.

I would have loved to have had him state it before the election.

Election to the post doesn’t make a Pope perfect.

Sometimes, with graces and time, a person (or Pope) can grow into their job.

Six months into his papacy, Pope Francis sent shock waves through the Roman Catholic church on Thursday with the publication of his remarks that the church had grown “obsessed” with abortion, gay marriage and contraception, and that he had chosen not to talk about those issues despite recriminations from critics.
It WAS the New York Times (not the highest of credibility sources for Catholic News IMO) but many mainstream media groups look to that paper as almost a Bible to help them prioritize the news (that gets reported upon … or not so much). This story was all over the news and in some quarters might even have made Francis more popular than his predecessors.

I always thought there was a bit of wishful imagination added to the Pope’s words back in 2013. THIS story gives a lot more clarity.

Dearest Holy Spirit – continue to counsel and guide your vicar in Rome. And all of us. 🙂

It’s as if the Holy Father sees abortion as a black and white issue. The clarity in teaching is much welcomed.
