The instability inherent to the ME is part of Europe now.
Europe made that choice to reject the neo-liberal option proposed by Bush and to embrace the Arab Spring revolution that they led Obama into supporting.
That the revolution would turn out to be an Islamist one was entirely predictable, but anyone sounding the warning bells on that has been brushed off as an Islamophobe.

What the pope is commenting one is real enough. There was a brief window nevertheless, when a third option between corrupt dictator and Islamist zealot was possible.

Iraq had been stabilized. Instead of building on that hard won success, Obama and the world rejected it. The “Arab invasion” is a part of that choice.

Syria and IS share more in common with each other than differences.
What they have both shut down ruthlessly is all who attempted to create a civil society in Syria.

When it was reported that Assad and Syria were among the clients for IS oil, that was an indication that the appearance and the reality in who’s fighting who in Syria are very different things.

The following skinny article in Bloomberg comments on an Italian language article from the L’Osservatore Romano:

I wonder why the only Catholic source I managed to find featuring the Holy Father’s speech to a French Christian group is this:

I couldn’t even find the meeting mentioned on the Vatican website…

Anyone knows anything about this?

Any comments on what Pope Francis said?

Many thanks
Good for the Holy Father. The contrast we are seeing between our Pope and GOP frontrunner is stark. You could almost say black and white.
BTW, ‘Arab’ is an ethnicity. Islam is a religion.
Thought I should clarify that.
