One by gone tradition of the Church I would like to see return with Pope Francis is the distribution of Agnus Dei’s. It would have to happen quickly as it is usually part of Holy Week.

Never heard of it. But by-gone traditions don’t generally find their way back, sadly.

It hasn’t been gone that long. Only about fifty years. Young enough to make a comeback! 🙂

Is this something you’ve heard or read or something you wish would happen? If yo’ve heard about it elsewhere can you share the source?

This is something the Pope can do in his first year and then again every seventh year of his pontificate. I have one that was passed from my grandparents to my mom, and now to my family. It was distributed by Pope Gregory XVI. With the New Evangelization and calling for renewal within the Church, what a fantastic way to bring forth a sacramental that in the past was considered so special that in times when there was little disposable income, my grandparents went to the expense to encase it in a beautiful small gilded frame with elegant rolled paper decoration. A beautiful tradition worthy of a comeback at a time in the Church when it is so desperately needed.

I somehow doubt that he will do that.

Just my opinion, but a Jesuit from Latin America restoring traditions that were thrown out in the heady days after Vatican II? Nah, I don’t think so.

No disrespect to the Holy Father, but I just don’t see him restoring any of the old traditions and wouldn’t be surprised at all if he rescinded some of the changes that have come about recently.
