cvcomment.org/2013/04/16/ordinations-to-priesthood-in-england-and-wales-now-higher-than-the-1950s/

"But if we add together the diocesan and Ordinariate ordinations for 2012, we have a figure of 52 — higher than the 1950s, which some look back to nostalgically as an era of vigorous Catholicism."
It was an era of vigorous Catholic practice in our daily lives. And it contains zero nostalgia as an ingredient.

Peace 🙂

It’s hard to follow exactly what changes in the 60’s and 70’s you are talking about. How did Pope Benedict clear the air? Are these things impossible to state with specifics without drawing too much fire, or is everyone but me on the same page? You can PM if that would make it easier to explain. I find the topic very interesting, but have only recently encountered self-described radical traditionalists, so I have an admittedly lopsided view of the aftermath of Vatican II.

PS-- Do you mean clear the air by the article you linked?
Everything is in post # 153. If you’d like anything clarified further, I’d be glad to help.

Peace,
Ed

I’m not interested in asking questions about everything that the Church does, how she does it or what she does not do. That is not my business. My business is to tell others what the Church does and does not do. That’s it.
As one simply reading along with the discussion as best I can, this above makes little sense to me. How can one say that they are not interested in asking questions about what the Church does and does not do, but yet also claim it is their “business” to tell others these specific things? What would one say about a professor in a university who insisted that it is their job to tell you about history but simultaneously state that they refuse to be troubled actually studying that subject or seeking to learn about it? Would that position make much sense to anyone seeking greater knowledge themselves? I hardly think so, and therefore your position as stated above is very confusing to me.

I think Bro. JR meant he’s not interested in asking the Church to justify herself to him.

Sorry about the confusion. It’s a very Franciscan way of speaking. We certainly study what the Church teaches and what she does. We don’t get into questioning popes, councils, bishops or superiors. They don’t have to explain themselves to us.

As St. Francis always said, we are minors or the lesser ones. The only explanation that the Church owes us is how to get to heaven. If she decides that mass will be celebrated in Swahili, that every priest will wear orange on the third Tuesday of the month, since it’s not against faith and morals, the Church can choose to explain herself or she can choose to say, “Just do it.”

If she chose to say “Just do it,” which the Church rarely does, Franciscans teach others to do as we do. What is it that we do? We just do it, no more questions asked.

The Church does not need to explain herself to us. All she has to do is point out the way to heaven.

We have faith that it is the Holy Spirit at work in Christ’s chosen ecclesiastics, not men and their gender of domination.

As I said, in my defense there was no document presented as authoritative. So for me to accept it on hearsay would also make me a Protestant. :o

Why are you all ganging up on me?
As he has stated he does not have to present a document. If you doubt what he says the burden is on you to show he is wrong. He is speaking as a Franciscan and giving answers that reflect what he has been taught by the Church.

Hello

What is the difference between the Holy Spirit and Holy Ghost?
None.

Holy Ghost is the English translation from the German, Geist.

Holy Spirit is the direct translation from the Latin, Spiritus.

Thank you.
But this is NOT what the Council of Trent taught.

The Council of Trent - Session 7~

CANON I.-If any one saith, that the baptism of John (Spirit) had the same force as the baptism of Christ (host); let him be Anathema.

-If any one saith, that in the Roman church, which is the mother and mistress of all churches, there is not the true doctrine concerning the sacrament of baptism; let him be Anathema.

CANON V.-If any one saith, that baptism is free, that is, not necessary unto salvation; let him be Anathema.

Thank you.

Trent is talking about the sacrament, not about what we call the Third Person of the Trinity. The Holy Spirit has been used in Catholicism since the time of Peter. It’s the only possible way to refer to the Third Person of the Trinity in Latin. All of the languages that come out of Latin use the term Holy Spirit. They’ve never used anything other than that.

What’s your point?

Why are you asking the question, if you believe that you already know the answer?

I do not believe this is correct.
I will link the following for your review.

**“But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost, shall never have forgiveness, but shall be guilty of an everlasting sin.”

I asked because I wanted an opinion. That is all. Thank you for your reply.

Holy Spirit is used in Freemasonic initiations. (Freemasonrys goal of course, is the overthrow of Christianity and Catholicism.
This became an innovation in our Church after Protestants, by the urging/approval of Heretic King James, published a Bible in the vernacular, with well over 150 Mistranslations.

Changing a word, or letter can alter entire meanings. Linguists knows this.
In English, the word ‘Holy Day’ was altered by changing the y for an i.
Now its Holiday.
Its entire meaning is thus changed.

The Common pre-1944 Rite: “I BAPTIZE THEE IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER, AND OF THE SON, AND OF THE HOLY GHOST.”

The Poles translate it as “Duch” which can be either, though I remember it being used in ghost movies. I say we require it in the Latin so we’re all on the same page.

SAY WHAT?!?!?
:rotfl:

Key.

Latin is a DEAD Language, thereby rendering it incorruptible. Without innovation.
That is why imo, The Mass was changed back into the vernacular.

Change the Mass = Change The Faith

So you are saying the Ordinary Form changes the faith.

Secret Societies and Satanic Movements
by Robert H. Goldsborough

Part I – The Catholic Church’s Diabolical Enemy

On November 26, 1983, the Vatican issued an explicit warning to all members of the Church’s hierarchy throughout the world. Condemning any and all Masonic associations, the warning stated, "**the Church’s negative judgment in regard to Masonic associations remains unchanged since their principles have always been considered irreconcilable with the doctrine of the Church and therefore membership in them remains forbidden. **
**“The Faithful who enrole in Masonic associations are in a state of grave sin and may not receive Holy Communion.” **
Prepared by Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, Prefect of the Vatican’s Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith , and approved by the Supreme Pontiff John Paul II, the document was published in the December 5, 1983 issue of L’Osservatore Romano.

Specifically anti-Catholic, it is working for a secularhumanist new world order - a Masonic Republic.

The consistent urgency of the many encyclicals and other papal condemnations is still reaffirmed. At Catholic University, in Washington, D.C., on June 30, 1990, in a speech to the World Apostolate of Fatima, Father Robert J. Bradley, S.J., stated,
**“Masonry is Secular Humanism incarnate. Masonry is also satanism incarnate.” **Desecration of the Blessed Sacrament

In his May 23, 1958, address to the Seventh Week Pastoral Adaption Conference, Pope Pius XII warned the Faithful, "**The roots of modern apostasy lay in scientific atheism, dialectical materialism, rationalism, illuminism, laicism, and Freemasonry - which is the mother of them all …
"Freemasonry, sometimes referred to as the Brotherhood, the Lodge, the Craft or the fraternity, then, is the breeder of modern apostasy which has grown to alarming proportions since Pius XII’s warning. Masonry has not changed its teachings since Pope Pius’ condemnation, nor had it changed from 1751 when Pope Benedict XIV in his Pontifical Constitution Prividas described Freemasonry as a secret sect which “would lead to evil and perversion”. **

In Cincinnati, Ohio, Gregory Flannery of the Mt. Washington Press, investigated a bizarre situation in that Catholic Archdiocese and on May 8, 1991 reported his discoveries in an article titled "Masonic Master screens city’s Catholic priests".
Flannery revealed that Joseph Wicker, the psychologist who screens candidates for the archdiocesan seminary of Cincinnati, is “the worshipful Master of the Masonic Lodge in Mt. Washington and is a member of the Ancient and Mystical Order of the Rose Crucis, better known as Rosicrucians”.

Archdiocesan spokesman Ray George told Flannery that Archbishop Daniel Pilarczyk “is apparently ignorant of Wicker’s involvement in Freemasonry”, adding, " ‘personally, I don’t see where that would be a conflict’ ". Wicker himself admitted to Flannery, “I go to Church once in a while but I’m not really a practicing Catholic”, then he added that he does practice Rosicrucian “experiments” and hopes to revive Masonic spiritual pursuits during his term as worshipful master.
Since that interview, the Archdiocesan policy is one of silence.’
