But it is the gospel itself that has lost credibility in the modern world. Fewer and fewer people live lives at all consistent with the gospel. Individual Catholics - average laity - need to live and preach the gospel more assertively. What would help I think is an honest dialogue with the various issues that has caused the Catholic Church to loose credibility in the eyes of the average person on the street.
Whether we, as Catholics, think that the credibility issues is valid or not, isnt the point.
The point is, many people around the world see the Catholic Church as lacking credibility. This has to be addressed.
Paganism? Are you using that to mean unchristian? I don’t think actual pre-christian paganism is making a comeback in any way.I do think there is a lot of spiritual hunger in Europe. They are seeking to fulfill it through paganism and secularism. They do miss God - they just don’t believe in him. It’s an ache, a mourning, not a rejection. It’s more that they can’t believe, not that they don’t want to.
Yes, I mean unchristian. I think Europe has replaced Christian morality with their own morality or code of conduct (political correctness, self-affirmation, worship of individual moral choice, worship of the social State, etc.) in a very similar manner to the pagans, overlapping even on many levels.Paganism? I agree, most people see praying and going to church for only “the elderly and for those who call themselves saints”.But it is the gospel itself that has lost credibility in the modern world. Regarding the institutional Church, it has responded many times to issues that media keeps raising. But since the media opposes the gospel, it will never keep claiming the Church is failing to address issues the people are concerned. Even if the popes and bishops stopped all their other activity and held 3 daily press conferences, the media would still be unsatisfied. It’s going to be up to individual Catholics, speaking and living about the gospel.
You say similar way to pagans? Are you referring to modern day neo-pagans? That is a pretty small and diverse group ranging from far right ethnocentrists to the more individual moral choice green crowd you are referencing. I think you are referring much more to humanism in particular secular humanism with the pc and worship of social state.Yes, I mean unchristian.
