We should not mistreat gay people, and God is merciful, but also just. That goes for heterosexuals as well. All of us are sinners but we must move toward the Lord and not away.

I think a lot of people on this forum would probably cringe and call Jesus hateful if He would have come on this because He would have said the Truth. Truth is regarded in this country as “intolerant” and “judgemental.” I for one would prefer to be slapped by Truth than kissed by lies.

Sure, but that is also consistent with the message of the Gospels in John 3: 19 And this is the verdict that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil. 20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his works might not be exposed. 21 But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God.

This is not about hatred or offense but about the facts that some people are unwilling to make the moral paradigm shift that Our Blessed Lord Jesus Christ says is necessary to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. This is a spiritual reality and we see it every day in our society.

No argument with the scripture, or that we must needs take a stand, but I have seen many Christians use that passage as a license to be needlessly aggressive and offensive to others, so lets not go there.

There may come a time when we have to take a very serious stand and defend ourselves, the faith, and those we love, but that time is not yet.

I concur with you that the langue of the post was strong and could even be seen as offensive; yet, as wrong and offensive as it may have been it does speak to two important points on the issue: 1) Biblical morality, and 2) strong arm of the secular government used to force those who disagree with the culture of death and homosexuality into extinction.

Quite correct…except that “being offended” seems to be the martyr card of those who deny what the Bible says about how our lives should be lived and also seek to deny us the religious freedom to believe and practice our faith by appeal to a secular government to force us to accept and allow them free hand to propagandize and proselytize our young to a contrary thinking and encourage them to reject the Biblical moral teachings of the church.

While I agree with your statement that more and more people are sharing your views on these very issues, it does not mean that God will one day change Biblical Teaching and accept man as man desires to be. Hence, those who are Faithful to Scriptures and the Church can not pretend that everything is permissible–not even under the guise that "God is “love.”

When the Pope speaks/writes in such fashion as to create a false sense of acceptance (as he just did with the Sacrament of Marriage) it allows for even the Believers to be confounded and end up supporting anti-Doctrinal beliefs.

I disagree and would again point out that what Pope Francis says is correct when seen in context and that what so much of that foolishness is actually about is drawn out of context and then twisted to suit the agenda of people who wish it was true. The consternation that it causes among the faithful is just a (welcome, by those propagandists) side effect. We must never give in to it.

(…just to expand in what you’ve stated) …it seems that people are confusing the issues… it is not that heterosexuals are “good” by default; sex outside of the Sacrament of Marriage is a sin; a person that has extramarital affairs are being adulterous, again a sin; homosexuality is a sin.

Yet, some want to present the view that a monogamous homosexual relationship is just as good as a monogamous heterosexual Marriage.

Though we are all sinners, the Call is to repent and turn back to God.

I came across this interview in a link on Farcebook earlier today, well yesterday.
I read the full text of what the Holy Father said. We always must look for his actual words, not just the sometimes alarming headlines.
He did indeed refer to the Catechism and most certainly did not “grovel”. I wonder how the mainstream media is spinning this …

Perhaps in the future the Holy Father might take the media to task for how they mis-characterize matters spoken in relations to sins which are offensive to God, and detrimental to families trying to manage in obedience to God’s will and Church ordinances.

The same might be said of your comments: Which is easier, to say Love your enemies, or to say go and sin no more?

I would think, Love you enemies is easier, because besides Christ himself and the blessed virgin, I can’t think of anyone who has gone and sinned no more. And, God knows I haven’t…how about you?

Not that loving your enemies is so easy either! Especially if that love includes both praying for your enemies that they might finally see the light AND behaving in a just and merciful manner toward them.
