I found this very short article to be quite refreshing! So much in so few words. It really brings peace to my soul, and really points the way to us…

As helpful as greeters and extraordinary ministers are (and I know we need them in many cases), they are not essential - the Mass will accomplish its goals with or without them. But the call of the Gospel will not be accomplished unles we spread the faith in our “families, workplaces, schools, neighborhoods and beyond.”

Thank you, Pope Francis! Enough of the guilt trips from the people driven to join these pursuits and then to insist others’ aren’t being good Catholics if they don’t do the same thing! I have a theory that those who join the parish “worship teams” are the same folks who join every club opportunity offered: school, work, church and in the community. They will always join and they will always be lauded for doing so.

But many times, these clubs are started and maintained to give people something to do. Work is sometimes created that is not necessary so they can feel like that are being productive and involved. Not everyone needs and or wants to participate like that. There’s room in the world and in the Church for more introspective individuals who care to offer their support through prayer, anonymous donations of food, clothing and money, and Mass attendance and participation.
