He was referring to people who were overly rigid or legalistic. Did you notice his emphasis on “rigidity”? I hate to break it to you, but there are many people in the “trad” camp that are overly rigid or legalistic or reject any Church positions that came after the Council of Trent etc. Some people have an extremely legalistic view of our Faith that is quite sanctimonius to others.

But many commentators as I stated previously, including Fr. Gerald Murray, Robert Royal among others, don’t see it that way. (See below) And I hate to break it to you, but there are many people in the “OF" camp that are overly liberal and modernistic, who flat out reject any traditional Church positions that came prior to the Second Vatican Council.

He sure doesn’t seem fond of the Latin Mass that’s for sure.
Well, a lot of Bishops his age are not fond the Extraordinary Form of the Mass.

Honestly, I think one of the reasons if because at a Pontifical High Mass (a High Mass celebrated by a Bishop), the Bishop is treated with a lot of “pomp and circumstance.” Most bishops today do not like being treated like royalty, but that’s exactly what the EF Mass does for Bishops.

NOTE: I love the EF mass. But if I was a Bishop, I don’t think I would want to celebrate a Pontifical Mass very often, as it seems to focus too much on the Bishop. Perhaps this explains why there are many paintings of Bishops sitting in choir at mass while priests celebrated Mass?

God Bless

" Rad-Trads, or Mad-Trads. I’m pretty sure most know exactly the kind of Catholic…"
Are you aware that these terms are considered insulting by many Roman Catholics?

Then they should take it up with Paul VI, because that’s what he called it and what is stamped in gold on the cover of the first edition of 1969.

It is intellectually dishonest to say the 1969 Novus Ordo hasn’t been said for decades, given the changes from 1969 to 2018 are extremely minor. The same intellectual dishonesty is found in those who say the classical liturgy dates to 1570, when in fact the “changes” of 1570 are exceedingly minor compared to, for example, the first printed edition of the Missal of 1474.

Novus Ordo is disliked as a label by those who dislike being reminded of how what was produced in the 1960s was…to quote then-Cardinal Ratzinger…“a banal, on the spot fabrication.”

I use that title for it all the time, and I thoroughly enjoy the OF.

It just means ‘New Order’. Not sure what’s slur-ish about that.

‘Priests are always and everywhere permitted to celebrate Mass in Latin.’ (RS 112)

Pope Francis would never. It’s so sad to see how many things are said about him, how his words get twisted, and how much he is attacked . I wouldn’t take this article seriously
