Pope Francis reportedly 'deeply concerned' about the German Church

The former bishop of Fulda, in the west-central German state of Hesse, said that the pope recalled the letter he wrote to German Catholics in June 2019, urging them to focus on evangelization. Francis reportedly complained that his message had been ignored.

The pope issued the letter amid concerns at the Vatican over the German Church’s “Synodal Way”.

The Vatican intervened after the German bishops said that the process would end with a series of “binding” votes, ruling that the plans were “not ecclesiologically valid.”
It wouldn’t surprise me if this is true. For some time now it seems some German bishops have been following in the path of Luther and wanting to change basic teaching of the Church.

The way I see it, if they don’t like much of what the Catholic Church is teaching, they can join another denomination of Christianity rather than trying to poison the Church.

Why can’t he remove the bishops and replace them?

The “ideas” coming out of Germany are total nonstarters.

While I’m glad that Pope Francis realizes there is a problem, and this problem has existed well before his papacy and isn’t his doing, he hasn’t exactly helped matters in the last 7+ years. Hopefully the results of this “Synodal Way” will be the wake up call that Pope Francis needs to finally take some decisive action. The strategy of sending gently worded letters to the German bishops seems to have run its course. He’s hasn’t hesitated to drop the hammer on other groups before - maybe it’s time to recognize that they are going to need to be stopped by hard, cold authority and aren’t going to correct themselves.

Read op. The pope wrote a letter to the german bishops in 2019 adressing the issue then and calling them to the right path. He has been aware and has warned them fraternally.

I’m not sure if this is genuine but apparently Pope Francis was quoted as having said to a German Bishop, “There is already a protestant church in Germany, we do not need a second one!”

I know you said you’re not sure if it’s genuine, but still, do you have a source (even if a not too reliable one)? Or is it just hearsay?

It would be great if he did say that.
