I wasn’t a public bus, it was a Vatican minibus that took the cardinals from the Sistine Chapel to the Casa di Santa Marta, both located within the Vatican.
Oh, that’s a lot better. Well, pray for Pope Francis anyway :signofcross:

I suspect the “No” was a typo and mean to be “To”. If the latter it makes perfect sense. I had to do a double-take as well.

Sometimes my fingers can be a little unruly as well, so I understand 😊
I don’t like it if it said “To” though. It seems to me that words are as important as actions. I just feel that there is a conspiracy almost in people trying to just relegate everything to mere actions so that we can thrive in ambiguity as to what it really means 😦

I mean the Pope himself said in yesterday’s homily (his first as Pope). If we just do charity and do not profess Jesus, we are just like a NGO organization and not building up his Church.

Every day at Lauds and Vespers I pray for him 🙂

I do think though, that his spontaneity is going to drive his security detail absolutely bananas. I hope the psychiatry ward at the Gemelli Clinic has lots of room!

The man refuses to use limos and private cars. He also refuses to be called Eminence, Excellency, Bishop or Cardinal. He has been simply “Jorge” or “Father Jorge”.
I know! He is so humble that he has to make a statement out of it at every move…😉

How is it called? Do not let your left hand know the good what your right hand does…👍

Even though I understood why the Popes road around in the bullet proof Mercedes, it almost seemed unnatural (not he best word) because I could never see Jesus doing it. However, now that we have a Pope who may not use that vehicle, I am worried for him, but very proud he is willing to show he is putting his life into God’s hands. Not that the other Popes didn’t, I just think this maybe something very needed in the Church right now. I pray he has many faithful years as our Pope.

Although he was second in voting when Pope Benedict was chosen, I can tell you most Jesuits didn’t see this coming, at least the ones at the school I work didn’t. In fact, I ask a couple of our priest if there was a chance to have a Pope from the Jesuit order in our life time, and they said no way. We are all very happy about it.

Maybe he should have a bulletproof Fiat 500 instead 😉

You never know? I wonder if he will wear a bullet proof vest. It will be interesting to see the decisions he will make about things like that; will he ever cook for himself, what kind of room will he have, how much he will “fight” his security guards plans.

As far as what he wants others to call him, that should be completely up to him. If he has earned enough respect of the cardinals to appoint him as the head of the church, people should certainly respect his wishes on what to call him, even if historically different than other popes.

Yeah I am sure he’s going out of his way to be showy in this. Come on

We could have a contingent of undercover Swiss guards form around him and keep an eye on quick movements…

… at least until someone gets slammed to the ground for moving too quickly for a pen.

I feel for the poor guy having to get used to some of the trappings of office with which he would probably rather do without. Still, I am excited about the choice like I haven’t been in, oh, about eight years.

I would so love this!! 😃
And Pope Francis would look so cute in it!

The Fiat 500 is a really fun car! I rented one last year for a trip, it is cute (look at it head on & it looks like it’s smiling :)) has lots of standard features (moon roof w/ a bug screen!!) , great stereo system, handles like a dream and gets awesome mileage! 😃 The ideal “frugel” car! 😉

I like them too. I told my wife I want a cream convertible with a burgundy top and white seats but she said that would be like “crossdressing with your car”…

So instead I have to make due with my VW Golf… but at least it has a sunroof! Maybe I have to buy my wife one, and I can drive it and when people poke fun at me I can say “it’s my wife’s my VW is in the shop!”.

Maybe the Vatican security detail will buy him an old city bus, make it bulletproof, and fill it with local volunteers who have undergone a security screening, to make him feel at home 😛

I’m teasing. I have been so impressed with this man so far. I must admit, that while I had enormous respect for Benedict, I never warmed to him that much, but I understand why, being a fellow introvert… but Pope Francis, he just seems so full of human warmth, and a good dose of holiness which is what I think a hurting Church needs at this time in its history.

Since he has not be housed at the Vatican before and has been out among the people, he does seem to have a more “realness” to him. I have loved all the Jesuit priest I have known growing up and I think those you have not had a great deal of experience with them will be pleasantly surprised in the Jesuit characteristic Pope Francis will show. Of course, there will always be a few that would rather someone else.

I would have to ask why riding in a Vatican supplied bus, accompanied by Cardinals is seen as such an extraordinary and great thing? I don’t get it.
He was offered a limo, and preferred to ride with his brothers who had just elected him. Personally I think it was a touching gesture of humility and unity towards them and a recognition of their support of him; the role of superior as “servant to the servants of the Lord”.
Of course, there will always be a few that would rather someone else.
I think we need to trust the Holy Spirit on this one! I think the Holy Spirit got it very, very right.

I know. And it seems to me it would be so much more humble to just obey the protocol …
Like: How do you guys run things around here? Oh, I am suposed to take this limo? Ok, let’s go…
