Did anyone see it tonight (4/13/14) with Scott Pelley.
Curious what other folks’ takes are on it.

Personal faith is not the same thing as reporting style or bias. Whatever they believe personally, their reporting style and bias is what viewers actually consume. Why would the pope “cleaning up things” be considered a negative.
It is exactly what he’s doing, and what he’s been asked to do.
Not sure why you consider the show “secular”–which means, “without God”:
Anchor Scott Pelley, the reporter on the story, is Methodist.
Anchor Lesley Stahl attended the evangelical Christian college in Wheaton, where “bible is out middle name…”
Anchor Bob Simon is Jewish.
Anchor Morley Safer is Jewish.
Anchor Anderson Cooper is Catholic.
The show’s creator, Don Hewitt, is Jewish.
Not a secularist in the bunch.

Because it implies that the previous Pontiffs were incapable of handling matters themselves, rather than discussing how Pope Francis is continuing the work set out by Blessed Pope John Paul II and Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI.Why would the pope “cleaning up things” be considered a negative.

Mumbles 140 and Havard kindly answered most of the points for me, much better than I could. Simply from my perspective, the contents, emphasis and subjects aligned to the general secular reporting, which may be all they had time for on the program. Why would the pope “cleaning up things” be considered a negative.

Wait. So the suggestion that there was wrongdoing occurring within the Church is evidence of a bias against the Church? I just figured that was… reality.Because it implies that the previous Pontiffs were incapable of handling matters themselves, rather than discussing how Pope Francis is continuing the work set out by Blessed Pope John Paul II and Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI.
Huh? I’m confused, how did you getWait. So the suggestion that there was wrongdoing occurring within the Church is evidence of a bias against the Church? I just figured that was… reality.
Things really did happen in the past that are regrettable. Bad things. And bad things will continue to happen within the Church just as they happen outside of it. I don’t think admitting that is a negative. As the old cliche goes, the first step is admitting you have a problem.

I hope I did not imply that the human aspect of the Church was perfect. I was speaking about the tone implied that the prior Popes were leading the Church into despair, while Pope Francis is the knight in shining armor who will come and rescue Her.Wait. In the world embracing Pope Francis (which is an awesome thing), it is not uncommon for the media to create a division between him and his predecessors, as if the preceding Popes were responsible for all of the problems and none of the solutions, and I find this to be an injustice.
