I would think that is the furthermost thing from his mind. He is going out to meet people where they are at and acknowledging their value in Gods eyes.

Ummm, I don’t think that is why he is going to pray in the Mosque. He will undoubtedly honor the Muslims and their faith. As he should.

Pope Francis has demonstrated his knowledge of the Catechism time and time again, he is well aware that the CCC says:

849 The missionary mandate. “Having been divinely sent to the nations that she might be ‘the universal sacrament of salvation,’ the Church, **in obedience to the command of her founder **and because it is demanded by her own essential universality, strives to preach the Gospel to all men”:“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and Lo, I am with you always, until the close of the age.”

Surely this mission is the purpose of the visit.

Since the visit to the Synagogue proceeded this visit to the Mosque (and reports to be connected in intention), what can you show us that demonstrates that his visit there was to preach the Gospel and baptize the Jews?

I do. I also wonder about visiting a Protestant church. There has to be a point and it would be interesting to know the intent.

There is. Inter-religious dialogue is a priority of the Church. She has the Pontifical Council for Inter-religious Dialogue entrusted with this mission. She similarly supports ecumenism with our separated brethren.

Sadly, I think when the Holy Father speaks and the news is posted, the hue and cry will be raised: pluralism! Liberalism! There is no end to knee jerk reactions. I suspect he’ll emphasize that Muslims worship the same God as it is taught in Lumen Gentium. It gives people no end of fright.

The concerning thing is if people on both sides of the political spectrum believe it. There’s no room for nuance anymore. I see Pope Francis as a peacemaker.

Some folk equate the word “nuance” with “he’s using big language to split hairs and try to dupe me” or “he’s saying what I’m saying but by using complicated words”! To be fair, I haven’t noticed any Catholics saying that Pope Francis is preaching relativism while clapping their hands. It’s mostly just reactionaries on the other side.

The Pope is the Bishop of Rome. According to canon law:

“He is to consider the non-baptized as committed to him in the Lord, so that there shines on them the charity of Christ whose witness a bishop must be before all people.”

This is why he is the Pope and his critics are not. God needs those who can witness his love through word** and **deed.
