This moved me as well. Here’s the picture.
There is video of it here

telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/vaticancityandholysee/9949839/Pope-meets-Pope-Francis-tells-Benedict-were-brothers.html

It was a larger kneeler. Given how frail Pope Emeritus looks, I dont think a smaller one would have work. 😦

But Pope Francis was clearly very kind to an elderly man, to his brother.

Im reminded of something you said just a few days ago. I dont remember exactly how you put it but it was along the lines that JPII did one thing for the church, Benedict another, and in Francis we are being shown how to live it…

I think your observations are straight on…

Watch the video again. I just noticed something. The kneeler is the standard one person kneeler. If you watch closely, Benedict is yielding the kneeler and going for the first pew behind the kneeler. Francis joins him in the first pew.

I see God’s love, pure pure Charity, in these men.

Yes, holiness in 2 disciples of Our Lord.

OHH…

I confused the pew for the kneeler!!!

Thanks for pointing it out…

May be a crude way of putting it, but to me, it’s Christ in action.

Christ made visible to us. 🙂

Great pictures thank you so much.

I wish a moderator would remove the I by Pope Francis’s name. According to the Vatican, he is to be known as Pope Francis.

He will be Pope Francis I when there is another Pope Francis who will be known as Pope Francis II. 🙂

You may want to suggest it to him. Eric is very helpful and reasonable 🙂

If I’m not mistaken, I believe that using an ordinal number after his name is the person’s call. For example, the Orthodox Patriarch of Constantinople is Bartholomew I. Albano Luciani chose to go by John Paul I. Angelo Roncalli, explicitly chose John XXIII to get rid of the anti-pope who was also John XXIII.

My feeling is that if he had chosen Francis I, it would be official. However, he has quoted himself. When ask for his new name, he quotes himself as saying, “Francis in honor of St. Francis of Assisi.” He didn’t insert “the first” in there.

I guess if you’re the first, it’s like using Sr after your name. John Smith, Sr. If you’re the only John Smith in your family, senior is not that important.

Ok guys. I’m sorry for putting a I by the Holy Father’s name. I didn’t think it would matter but I saw that some of you were offended by it. So I apologize.

. I made the same mistake when I first started to refer to him.:o it was not until I read one of Br. Jay’s posts explaining why “I” is not usually used for the first…I learn so much reading his posts. 🙂

There was also this book I heard about (I forgot the name of it) written by a Fundamental Protestant apologist in 2012 predicting that Pope Benedict would resign,
That’s brilliant since Pope Benedict vxi hinted that he may do so…

My first thought, after I was told about the lightening strike and the symbolism of it, was that it reminded me of how the earth shook and the current in the temple was torn in two and how the sky turned dark when Jesus died on the cross…
My thoughts too…

When we do spiritual direction we observe body language. If I were to analyze this picture, I could say that Francis is very attentive. Notice that his back does not touch the couch. He’s leaning forward a tad. It’s also a posture of respect.

Observe that his cassock does not fall down to the sides like that of Benedict. It’s because he has gathered it between his knees in front of him. This can be interpreted as a certain reserve. Animals make themselves smaller to avoid being seen and larger in order to intimidate. I don’t know this man, so I can’t say for certain, but I do know that people who try to make themselves smaller are not threatening. On the contrary, the more they blend in, the more comfortable they feel. The more comfortable they feel, the better their work. They avoid calling a lot of attention to themselves.

His hands are folded with fingers intertwined, which can signal a level of comfort with some reservation. Remember, reservation does not mean a lack of trust. I can be very reserved in front of someone to whom I look up. Given that Benedict was his former boss and that this kind of chit-chat has not happened in 600 years or probably never, how would you feel if you were now your boss’ boss? It would take some getting used to.

I don’t see an uncomfortable Francis, but this is not the same as his other pictures where he comes across as being in charge. This is more like that first image that we have of him on the night of his election, when he came to the balcony with a boyish look on his face. His initial look into the crowd and his silence almost asked, “What just happened?”

This may be very telling about him. He’s a man who can be in control, but also a man with great sensibilities who prefers to focus his attention on others rather than himself. Time will tell.

I don’t think anyone is offended. Certainly not I.

No apology is necessary. 🙂

Scruples, don’t worry about it, the next time there is a Pope Francis you will be correct…

If anyone is offended then they need to get a life !

Yeah me too. I figured that we always call a Pope that has a new name ‘I’.

Of course you all know that we have a new pope, Francis I. He seems like a very great man and am happy to have him as our new pope. He’s humble, traditional and very generous and friendly. Yet I’ve been seeing nothing but attacks on him. People were expecting him to be the Antichrist (Peter the Roman) and despite the fact that his name is not Peter, many Fundamentalist Christians and pre-Vatican II Catholics are still trying to make the St. Malachy prophecy valid by pointing out the fact that St. Francis of Assisi’s real name (supposedly) is San Francisco de Petra (or something similar to that) and that’s his name translated into Italian. The propechy also (supposedly) says that the last pope would be an Italian and Pope Francis is Italian by blood because his parents were Italian immigrants to Argentina. It’s interesting how this prophecy was never recognized by the Church and yet so many people still believe in it and it even seems to some extent that the prophecy is slowly unfolding.

I thought that the whole Peter the Roman scam was over, just like the December 21, 2012 scam was over. But I guess anybody will do anything to keep this stuff going. There was also this book I heard about (I forgot the name of it) written by a Fundamental Protestant apologist in 2012 predicting that Pope Benedict would resign, and it happened! And I heard that on the very night when Pope Benedict announced his resignation, lighting struck the Vatican. Many say that this is a sign of God’s wrath upon the Vatican (but for what?). I’m getting confused, I hope that I’m not on the verge of leaving the faith because of all this. I just ask for prayers. Prayers for me, prayers for the world, and indeed prayers for Pope Francis and Bishop Emeritus Benedict XVI. God bless
The Church there is one of the highest levels there. Where would want it to strike? Nobody got hurt. Your Pope will be a very busy man. I am sure he will be one of those good ones. I wouldn’t speculate what some obscure prophecy tells you. Prophecy if it is to be true must bring people into faith with God. Prophecy will want people to go back to Church. Ignore any prophecy that tells you otherwise. God is with His Church.
