Hi everyone, I just watched a video on Rome Reports that Pope Francis goes to confession every two weeks. I was just wondering, who is the person responsible to hear the priests, bishops, and the pope’s confession? I mean if we go to a priest to hear our confessions, how about them?

They’re just like anyone else: they can choose their own personal confessors.

JP II went to confession every day.

I often wonder what really does the Pope have to confess? He must really do one heck of an examination of conscience to go every two weeks. Makes me think I am really slacking or don’t really understand sin and confession all that well. I find myself becoming repetitive if I go often to confession and have a hard time remembering small sins that I might have committed. Sometimes a sin of my past may pop up but I’m not sure I should be going back to my past sins and confessing them everytime I think of something? Seems like I could think of things of my past for the rest of my life and still miss some

yes, that is challenging to think about going to confession every day. Blessed mother Theresa of Calcutta likewise went to confession every day.

They go to a priest of Bishop

They would go to a nearby clergy. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Rom 3:23) - never forget that.

Pax Christi!

His Holiness has his own personal confessor, but of course can confess to any priest. I believe it was Bishop Sheen who said, “Listening to nuns’ confessions is like being stoned to death with popcorn.”

Aren’t members of some orders (or other religious) required to confess every week?

God bless.

I’m always repetitive with my confessions as well and sometimes I find that very discouraging. I have found that the more frequently I got to confession, though, the better I am at identifying sin.

“Bless me father for I have sinned! It’s been one day since my last confession.”

😃

I go every two weeks. It is sometimes repetitive, but often that is part of the path to holiness.

I once heard that the Capuchins traditionally heard the Pope’s confession.

Of course, the Pope can choose anyone he wants. It can be a cardinal, a bishop, or just a mere priest.

It was reported at the time he confessed twice weekly for up to an hour or more each time.
I also heard that he went weekly and there was no mention of the time he spent in confession. Must have been a different reporter. Wonder who was right?

Who knows?

And in the long run does it really make any difference?

Incidentally, I read it in L’osservatore Romano which is why I always believed it to be true.
