You have several options.

  1. *]Zenit.org keeps an updated record of all the pope’s comments so you can read the original statements
*]The National Catholic Register (Google it) is a faithful Catholic news source that comments on what the pope says from within Catholic Tradition and rebuts the secular media when they get it wrong
*]EWTNnews.com also comments on papal documents from a faithful Catholic perspective
*]Lifesitenews.com usually has a faithful analysis of the Pope’s comments, but typically only if they touch social issues like abortion and same-sex “marriage”
*]Jimmy Akin is one of the guys at the Catholic Register who keeps up with the Pope’s comments, and he’s also an apologist here at Catholic Answers. As an apologist he also keeps up with the controversies that the media always brings up, so he usually posts an article rebutting the secular media whenever they say Pope Francis says something weird. You can find his blog at jimmyakin.org

I recommend the last one, Jimmyakin.org, for the fastest updated posts that set the record straight on what the pope has said. Hope that helps!

Pope Francis reaffirms that marriage is between one man and one woman

The first setting in which faith enlightens the human city is the family. I think first and foremost of the stable union of man and woman in marriage. This union is born of their love, as a sign and presence of God’s own love, and of the acknowledgment and acceptance of the goodness of sexual differentiation, whereby spouses can become one flesh (cf. Gen 2:24) and are enabled to give birth to a new life, a manifestation of the Creator’s goodness, wisdom and loving plan.

Pope shocked by same-sex adoptions legislation

The Pope is “shocked” by Malta’s Civil Unions Bill, which will allow gay couples to adopt children, Auxiliary Bishop Charles Scicluna has told The Sunday Times of Malta.

Vatican denies pope is open to recognition of gay civil unions

(Reuters) - The Vatican on Sunday denied Italian media reports that recent comments by Pope Francis signaled his openness to the legal recognition of same-sex unions in Italy.

Pope Francis’ Evangelii Gaudium is strongly against the evils of abortion while promoting religious liberty
  1. Among the vulnerable for whom the Church wishes to care with particular love and concern are unborn children, the most defenceless and innocent among us. Nowadays efforts are made to deny them their human dignity and to do with them whatever one pleases, taking their lives and passing laws preventing anyone from standing in the way of this. Frequently, as a way of ridiculing the Church’s effort to defend their lives, attempts are made to present her position as ideological, obscurantist and conservative. Yet this defence of unborn life is closely linked to the defence of each and every other human right. It involves the conviction that a human being is always sacred and inviolable, in any situation and at every stage of development.
  2. The Synod Fathers spoke of the importance of respect for religious freedom, viewed as a fundamental human right. This includes “the freedom to choose the religion which one judges to be true and to manifest one’s beliefs in public”.
Pope warns against dangers of 'adolescent progressivism’

Calling attention to the 20th century novel “Lord of the World” which focuses on this spirit of worldliness which leads to apostasy, Pope Francis cautioned against the attitude of wanting “be like everyone else,” which he referred to as an “adolescent progressivism.”

Pope Francis reaffirms that ordination is for men only

And, with reference to the ordination of women, the Church has spoken and she said : “No.” John Paul II said it, but with a definitive formulation. That is closed, that door is closed, but I’d like to say something about this. I’ve said it, but I repeat it. Our Lady, Mary, was more important than the Apostles, than bishops, deacons and priests. In the Church, woman is more important than bishops and priests; how, it’s what we must seek to make more explicit, because theological explicitness about this is lacking.

Dissident Aussie priest excommunicated—by Pope Francis?

The order comes direct from the Vatican, not at the request of Melbourne Archbishop Denis Hart

Pope: There won’t be women cardinals

Interviewer: May I ask you if the Church will have women cardinals in the future?

Pope Francis: “I don’t know where this idea sprang from. Women in the Church must be valued not “clericalised”. Whoever thinks of women as cardinals suffers a bit from clericalism."

It’s official: Pope has not abolished sin, says Vatican

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - The Vatican felt compelled on Tuesday to deny that Pope Francis had “abolished sin”, after a well-known Italian intellectual wrote that he had effectively done so through his words and gestures.

Pope: Guard against deceit of the devil

There are some priests who, when they read this Gospel passage, this and others, say: ‘But, Jesus healed a person with a mental illness’. They do not read this, no? It is true that at that time, they could confuse epilepsy with demonic possession; but it is also true that there was the devil! And we do not have the right to simplify the matter, as if to say: ‘All of these (people) were not possessed; they were mentally ill’. No! The presence of the devil is on the first page of the Bible, and the Bible ends as well with the presence of the devil, with the victory of God over the devil.

When I see an article in the secular press about something Pope Francis said, the first thing I look for is the source of the words. Oftentimes, I can use the date of the quote and the context to find the original speech/homily/etc. on the Vatican website.

Sometimes, the hulabaloo is about some interview the Pope gave which is not on the Vatican website. In those cases, most of the time, the secular news article will link to the full text of the interview close to the top of the article. In those cases, I follow the link and read the full interview while basically ignoring the article from the press.

I do second the recommendation for Jimmy Akin. He has been regularly writing articles such as “8 things you need to know (or 6 things or 10 things, etc) about what the Pope said” whenever these things arise. I usually see his articles linked to from the NewAdvent.org homepage (there’s one such link in the middle column of New advent’s page right now – seventh from the top). Jimmy Akin does a great job of putting things in context and cutting through the hysteria. He also always provides links to the original statements and the original articles which started the controversy.

The bottom line is that it is always, always, always a good idea to look at the source material. Look at what Pope Francis actually said. The media is mostly incapable of commenting accurately on Catholic matters, and they seem particularly incapable of accurately representing Pope Francis. They simply do not understand the Church.

The ordinary media is definitely a no, no, they don’t want to get it right after all if they mess up it puts us Catholics in a tizzy, but not, if they know we have copped onto them, by not listening to the rubbish they say about the Vatican, the Catholic Church, or The Holy Father.

Two great sites are

romereports.com ( great for news updates.)

Vatican.va (for everything )

Have a look at these and wont listen to the media again.
