I was told that Pope John Paul 11 was a Freemason. Is that true?

Who told you that JP2 was a Freemason? And what evidence do they have for saying so?

It’s hard to prove a negative - you can only ask for the evidence that he was a Freemason and rebut that.

Well, technically I believe he was a mason for awhile…he worked in a quarry.

:rotfl:

I wondered why no one asked the question about Popes John Paul 1-10.

Was Pope John Paul 11 a freemason?
No. He even had the Congregatin for the Doctrine of the Faith remind everyone that belonging to freemasonry was an automatic excommunication–why would he excommunicate himself?

There is no Pope John Paul 11. There is a Papa Joannes Paulus II but there has not been a third much less an eleventh yet. You are probably refering to the one I mentioned so just use JP2 to avoid confusion or say JPG (though JPM would be the correct form in Latin).

If you are refering to Joannes Paulus Magnus, the answer to your question is “NO OF COURSE NOT. and STOP MAKING UP EVIL LIES ABOUT THE HOLY FATHER.”
You want to bring up that he kissed a quron, ok he really did do that. You want to bring up the fact that he nearly died in a Nazi concentration camp, ok that really happened. You want to bring up how he faithfully and couragously defended the faith against the masons and the communist, sure we can talk about that because it is a real issue, but do not make these lies up or repeat them here in an attempt to make faithful Catholics question the teaching authority of the church. That is just wrong and you already know it.

Even the most basic examination of the teachings of Joannes Paulus Magnus will tell you that he not only wasn’t a mason but was a staunch opponent of it and excommunicated any other Catholic who would think of joining. Get your facts staight before comeing here to fish. I ain’t biting and no one else is either.

I just can’t stand those people who can’t acheive anything of value in life so they have to go and cut down the reputaion of great men. The only proof any of them that the Pope is a freemason is because they want to believe that. “oh the pope combed his hair from right to left today, see that proves what we have been saying all along.” or “Oh no, the pope is ending the schism between the Catholic church and (fill in the blank) church. That proves that he is a heretic.” The people that make this kind of stuff up not only are not Catholic, they are anti Catholic. Anyone who knows my opinion of protestants, the same applies to this crowd.

Theresa asked if it was true–that somebody had told her that. Then in post #7 she said “I agree” to the statement that he was a pretty cool guy. I highly doubt she posted this to start a fight, just wanted to know if there was any truth to the statement of another.

I see that you do in fact speak the truth. I was hasty. I suppose I have a verbal ‘slam the door in their face’ style from being attacked all the time. That is no excuse, just the reality of the rabid Anti-Christianity I have had to live with.

Believe me, I totally understand. Fall into that trap myself at times.

What is it with this whole “freemason” thing?

It seems that whenever a radical traditionalist doesn’t like a person, they put together a phony case about them being a freemason. It’s like the Hollywood blacklist–don’t like John Doe? Call him a communist, and your problems are solved!

But I shouldn’t say that too lound. Maybe I’m a freemason too…

As to the OP, I would like very respectfully say that a lot enemies of the Church like to find ways to show that certain Church officials are actually heretics in disguise. Their favourite tactic of doing this seem to be to say they were freemasons. The Dimond Brothers, for example, seem to think that the last four Popes and many prominent Cardinals were all freemasons. Just ignore them. Over the past 200 years, we’ve had nothing but stellar, first-class, A+ Popes who spend every waking minute of their Papacy working in the Lord’s vineyard.

You wicked freemason, how dare you!😛

Seriously, excellent point made, though I personally disagree with your last statement. A+ for many, B+, maybe A- for some more recent.

Beats some previous centuries where you might’ve gotten a B- average at the very best 🤷
