I have some questions about Pope John Paul.

1)Why is he never talked about?
2)Why is there hardly any info on him?
3)What were his major goals/vision as Pope?

Wow - great question. He was Pope for such a short time ( a little more than a month I believe).

Albino Luciani - John Paul I

I understand that he wrote quite a bit. One collection of a small portion of his writing is found in Illustrissimi - Letters from Pope John Paul I

There is a cause in process for his cannonization. You could probably get a lot of information by contacting them.

Mostly its due to his short papacy (33 days). Basically when a new pope is elected, it takes a few weeks (at least) for them to settle in and get used to the routine enough to start making adjustments.

In the case of Pope John Paul I, he was installed on 3 Sep and died on 28 Sep. Most of Rome normally goes on vacation in August (in part due to the heat), but this got delayed for many because of the conclave. So about the time everyone is getting back to work, he died.

Again, due to the shortness of his papacy he wrote no major documents and only 1 speech (as I recall). Because of that, his major goals/vision simply isn’t that obvious - he just didn’t have time to tell us.

He has one of my favorite quotes ever (although I think it was from before he became pope):
“I recommend love for the Tradition: do not be among those who, dazzled and blinded more than enlightened by a flash or two, think that the sun has come into being only now and wants to overturn and change everything.”

There is a certain amount of evidence that he was murdered. There is a book on that subject, In God’s Name.

Your mistaking the John Paul.

Pope John Paul 2 was almost murdered by an assassin. I read an article in Columbia magazine where JP2 later visited him in prison and forgave him.

No, I’ve heard this also. There’s a conspiracy theory that John Paul I was murdered. It’s kind of like Godfather III actually.

It’s just another conspiracy theory. I wouldn’t give it any credence.

I said death, because it was so sudden, what was it? Only 33days? I honestly cant understand how someone in that position could only live for 33days! How many rulers anytime in history only lived for 33days? I dont know why God does what He does, if it was his time to go then who am I to question it. I just looked into that theory you posted about, but I cant find any details, only one-liners.

Jim,

I agree. When you check out the sources for the conspiracy theory it is not worthy of any further discussion.

Since there are now over 15 people dead because of the Ambrosiano scandal, I wouldn’t go quite that far.

John Paul I did have a severe heart condition, however the financial scandals as detailed in at least 7 books provide some very interesting and strange information. The spokespersons for the church didn’t help matters any by changing stories at least three times which has given rise to even more speculation…
